I mentally substituted leader for faction, so disregard my comment.

In my experience from having played a few complicated-scenario games including multiple factions, it works quite well. More complications makes things easier for the players I think not harder, because it gives them something to start from. More vanilla games the players really have nothing to go on unless the wolves go out of their way to screw up. Having two factions is a good way to balance things with a very large number of players too I think.

So I'm all for a more complicated variant, I think the only down side is the extra effort to set them up. And maybe a higher risk of being unbalanced just because it's less well trodden ground, but that depends on the experience of the host, which I don't know much about either way.

Follow-up suggestion... I too am slightly skeptical of the extra factions and the complexity introduced by all that. I've kind of played mafia-like games in a group, but that was a long time ago, and I've never played in a forum setting. Over half of the people signed up for this game didn't participate in the first one (and most of those who did participate in the first are those who got KO'd early), so I suspect I'm not the only one who doesn't have much experience at all with games like this.

How about we keep it slightly more vanilla-ish for this game, and then if there's still interest in a 3rd, we can add some complexity. By vanilla-ish I mean relatively similar to the alignment of the first game - though it definitely doesn't have to be identical. Throwing in extra evil factions and such when I'm still getting the hang of the normal game sounds confusing right now. Some twists/flavor for this game sounds great, but fundamentally changing the game sounds like a bit too much. If the majority want it though, I'll definitely still play.

Any thoughts?

I would like to sign up for this, whatever form it eventually takes. I am definitely one of those total noobs who have been mentioned, though. lol

if people want to add complexity i have some ideas and am willing to send them to who ever the host is. Secret roles will be included in my ideas.

Why not play two games? One very similar to the current one and one more complex ffh game organized by uberfish?

It isn't like these are huge time sinks compared to a PBEM.

Actually, I don't really think I'm up for it if you do all this extra faction stuff.

Your not required to play in both. It sounds like Sunrise was thinking: a game with only two sides and one game with three or more sides. Secret roles and powers in all of them?

I'd be in favor of that (and would participate in both), but it might be wise to launch a third thread for a more complex game to distinguish between sign ups for the two games. I imagine many would participate in both, but judging from some comments, there are some people who would only like one or the other.

Antisocialmunky - I don't think this game would be like that - does that mean you are going to sign up for this one? I never actually had you listed as a sign up, so your post confused me somewhat. smile
