Kind of tangential, but from darrell's posted chat transcript it looks like Kyan and rego were in a group chat (against the rules of no diplo before in-game contact). Obviously that can be worked around, but if so it should have taken longer for them to organize the dogpile, at least. And possibly the negotiations would have failed due to there being less trust that everyone was in agreement. Thoughts?

Yeah, I thought the same thing but given the degree of bad behavior going on it seemed minor. But you're right, if they had to use go-betweens to get the communication off, it maybe takes another turn at least and Shoot doesn't kill novice's GM. That makes a fairly significant difference.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

I agree this is pretty disgraceful really, I think as far as I am concerned nospace just officially won this game

Agreed w/ SevenSpirits that the way the chat was carried out broke the game's rules, but I think at this point that might be the least of the dogpiler's offenses. Terrible move on all of the aggressor's parts, like losing a chess game and responding by giving the opponent a concussion.

Hm, not sure I agree with that. Breaking rules is fundamentally different from breaking non-binding agreements in a game. The former you deal with by not playing games with those people again, the latter merely by not trusting what they say in-game any more.
That said, it's a minor rulebreak, and I don't think we lurkers should be intervening about it or anything. And I do agree with you that their lack of honor and sportsmanship is more surprising and disturbing.

Kyan's rant just reeks of justification. Its no secret he and I rarely see eye to eye, but 2 things he said I strongly disagree with.
1. GLH is not more broken than financial on a water heavy map. PB2, PBEM7 and PBEM9 all show examples of GLH builders losing on a water map. Sure, PBEM6 or PBEM10 show its power, but even those games, I'd argue that other teams could have beaten the GLH winner honestly with better play.
2. On his "morals" argument, I'd direct them to this:
I know I get slated for moralizing too hard around here sometimes, but aren't we all looking to be friends and have a good time first? There are other sites on the net where winning is the only important thing, but I don't believe this is one of them. Or at least wasn't one of them.

I don't know.. perhaps an action like this is the logical next step to the REX or lose meta-game.

This is just ... wrong. Either you think something is wrong - then you shouldn't encourage others to do it - or you think it is right, and then you can do it yourself as well. But sending others out to do the stuff you don't want to be associated with?

I think once you get enough hypercompetitive nerds in a room for long enough, feed them exploits of the strong and merciless, we're just going to fall on one another like rabid dogs.

Kyan Wrote:Nospace admitted they didnt want diplomacy allowed, they voted to ban it but were outvoted. However, they didn't adapt to that decision and did not even try to set up NAPs with people. When you are in first place have have double GNP of second place- that's a diplomatic failing however you spin it.
Unfortunately I can't reply in Kyan's thread since it would be a spoiler, but man! They did! This just happens to be the game where people break agreements, didn't you notice that?
