For anyone who played the classic Bionic Commando on the NES, I highly recommend Bionic Commando Rearmed, which is on sale for $5 today. It's about 100 times better than the big-budget HD remake of Bionic Commando which came out in 2009.
I do think it's interesting how games made by smaller publishers or developer teams are so much more interesting today than the games made by the big companies. Something about investing all that money means that the games have to pander to the largest possible demographic, often resulting in boring and stale gameplay. Thank goodness we have stuff like Minecraft, Jamestown, and so on coming out to save up from the blandness of franchise sequel #1564 from EA or Activision.
I'm extremely tempted by that id bundle pack too... Getting Commander Keen, Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Doom II, and all the Quake stuff for only $30 is a ridiculously good deal.

I'd definitely be interested in comparing the number of playtesters for a game such as Dragon Age 2 and something like Magicka. I can see that the bigger companies possibly have tighter deadlines and have to rush the development more, but why is gameplay the main thing that suffers? Is the gaming industry overrun with artists but sorely lacking in...top gameplay testers?
Anyway not bought anything yet, hopefully there'll be something that interests me in the next few days

Hm, looks nice but the forums say this game is pretty hard. The trailer is awesome though, one of the best I've ever seen

While I agree on the indie part in general, I am not sure where exactly you see the innovation in Jamestown. I finally reached the last level and to me it is just a remake of a 20 year old concept which is not even close to Minecraft, Terraria, etc in terms of innovation (besides from the story )

Not available for Germans Probably because Doom or Wolfenstein was put on the index here...

I bought Magicka for 3 Euros on greenmangaming the other day and while I think the gameplay idea is brilliant the technical state of the game many months after release is terrible. The game still has tons of bugs and is not even close to optimized (I can run Starcraft 2, DA 2, ME 2, etc. in decent resolutions but for Magicka I need to use a 800x600 resolution )
What really irritates me though is the fact that there have been 6+ DLCs released for Magicka instead of fixing bugs or making long reqeusted gameplay changes such as a save system at least on checkpoints.
If you buy the bundle at full price, suddenly you are at 25 Euros, which is not that cheap anymore. To me it is clearly an example that Indie developers can become as greedy as major companies.
On the other hand, take Hiddenpath form Defense Grid, who over the course of time have added two free DLCs (another third mappack with 8 new maps costs not even 4$, or right now 96 cents on sale) and even added requested comfort features two years after release.

After a little thinking I decided to grab Bionic Commando Rearmed and I can confirm Sullla's opinion: It's a great game. It's still 33% off, so if you are looking for some retro style platform action with modern graphics look no further.
The bonus challenges would be worth the money on their own, IMHO

If you still can, you can go grab AI Wars. Its an interesting strategy game based around fighting a guerilla war against an AI that owns the whole galaxy.
In Soviet Russia, Civilization Micros You!

I don't know if there are any fans of The Sims out there but there's a cracking offer on it today.
Sims 3 plus pretty much all the expansions pack down from £154.92 to £49.99

Meh. Really Magicka is all about the co-op and being silly. PvP? Who needs that when you've got the campaign for epic trolling.

I used Magicka as an example of really fun gameplay. Honestly its nowhere near as bug ridden after all the patches as it was. I haven't played since PvP was added (if 3 others wanted to get together to play the campaign one day I'd be up for that) so can't judge how well that works

I ended up buying the Valve pack because there's a handful of games in there I've been meaning to play anyways (specifically the Portal/Half-life games).
Also, anyone here who plays MP games on Steam feel free to add me on Steam - my ID is scooterf. Team Fortress 2 for example is free and quite a bit of fun.
