Founded Kalgan as you planned. The very next turn, Ceiliazul founded a city across the lake, stealing the clams

I'm surprised you went for Kalgan as your 5th city. It's not an awesome spot by any means, especially with all those jungles around, and especially as you're struggling for income. Personally, I wouldn't found this city until I had IW. There are many better spots around

Magenta dot - an excellent spot with good commerce potential. Gems, 2 food resources, 3 flood plains. I don't count the wine, you will need Monarchy and IW to get to it

Orange spot - this is a production spot, but you can also get some commerce off the furs tile. Also, it can be productive immediately, with horses already improved and not accessible by any of the existing cities

Cyan dot - this needs to be founded urgently. The silver is definitely in your area of influence, but there's a serious risk of losing it to the English. You need this silver! 1S of the silver would've been a better spot, but founding it now could seriously piss off the English, it's right on their border

Blue dot - an awesome GP farm spot, with 4 (!) accessible food resources (1 of them shared). This is the only spot I'm not insisting on, you may want to play around with it, maybe split the deer resources between 2 cities. But you need to grab them before Cull does, he has enough Warriors to start fighting your choke (I'm surprised he didn't start it yet)

I will try to settle as many of these as I can. Just note for the future that I think all of these spots are better than Kalgan. Ignoring commerce resources in the early game is a big mistake, these are the tiles which can fuel your initial expansion and help you get to Currency, when you start to get extra income from trade routes + can build Wealth

thanks again yuri for taking over, i take on board what you said about Kalgan and i guess i was worried about maintenance costs

I see we've been asked about the map so here i go

Splitting the happies as they were has really caused problems, Cull was screwed from day 1 in my opinion, giving someone a 2c happy against a 7c happy was never going to end well banghead add in that fur and ivory both go obsolete in the end then it really wasn't balanced.

the Torodoil wrap is intresting and i still don't know if i've got my head around it, maintenance is fun... not but it has made the game more interesting

overall i'd give the map about 7 out of 10
