Pistols at Twenty Paces: Duel Challenge Thread

I would like to take the challenge if you are interested. I understand what you mean about not wanting to rely on warrior vs warrior battles and I am OK with it.

I'd like to use the following rule: Wimpy units* can't take the first aggressive action** of the game.
*Wimpy units = scouts, warriors, workers, settlers, workboats.
**Aggressive action = enter enemy culture, or enter an uncultured space containing an enemy unit.

That way, we don't have to deal so much with the lame randomness that can be introduced by super early warrior vs warrior or warrior vs scout battles.

I would somewhat prefer a slightly larger map to a slightly smaller one. Mirrorland?

Let's do it 2metraninja.

I propose the following settings. Of course I want to hear your preferences too.

* PBEM format.
* Mirrorland map with "Critical resources close" setting and no pre-placed improvements. Other than that default.
* Map size (i.e. the number affecting maintenance and tech costs, not actual dimensions) tiny or maybe small. (I believe "larger" settings than default, as well as less variation in settings based on player count than default, i.e. closer to average, is best for the map "size" setting.)
* Prince difficulty.
* Quick speed.
* Options: no barbarians, unrestricted leaders, always war, no vassal states, no tribal villages, no random events.
* Leaders/civs chosen by us in some manner that's not random - got a preference?

House rules:
* No war elephants.
* Spies can't perform missions.
* "Wimpy units can't take the first aggressive action of the game."

Thanks for the offer BaII, I agree it would be a kind of lopsided match though. Hope someone else steps up and you can find a good contest.

Thanks for accepting the duel. Looking for interesting and exciting game.

I am OK with the settings you listed.

I will just have to look at the map - I am not sure I played it before, but since it will be mirrored and basically the same for us both, I am OK with it.

As for leader/nation choice, I am not sure about method of choosing.

I'm interested in playing a duel pbem game.

My preferences are ...

* PBEM format
* fractal map
* Map size small
* noble difficulty
* regular speed
* Options: barbarians, unrestricted leaders, no tech trading, no tribal villages, no random events.
* Leaders/civs chosen randomly by game

House Rules
There are no house rules.

I'd play you, Ruff, with the caveats that I'd really prefer quick speed and while I like the theory of random rulers, Lewwyn and I played a dozen of those a while back and it so often resulted in a win at setup, when one guy gets Babylon and the other Russia or one guy gets Agg/Cre and the other gets Phi/Org, that we stopped. So if you were willing to reroll until we got something that was not an obvious win on setup and play on quick, I'd play with you. Otherwise, no big if you want to wait for someone else.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Done! Quick it is.
What about we play the same leader / Civ combination?
Can you do that in Civ4?

Should be fine, just edit the world builder file to make it happen.

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon

I'm fine with whatever so long as it gives both sides a chance.
