SMACX Thinker Mod

The few forum discussions I was able to find on SMAC + Wine were not promising, unfortunately. How is the mod doing what it does, exactly?

I haven't tested this with Wine myself, but I was able to confirm from Drazharln (can be found from other SMAC forums) that both SMAC and Thinker should work with Wine. Network multiplayer apparently doesn't work on Linux, but it wouldn't be supported by Thinker anyway. Using Pracx at the same time might cause some stability issues, but Drazharln is not sure about it. If you experience crashing when using Pracx/Wine, you can post back here or open an issue on the Pracx repo on GitHub. I don't know if you used Pracx here, but just making sure in case you did.

To install the game and Thinker just follow these steps:

1. Run wine setup.exe
2. Unzip Thinker.zip to .wine/drive_c/<SMAC install folder>
3. Run wine terranx_mod.exe

Recently I released Thinker v2.4, see the changelog here. There has been many important fixes and additions since I last posted here.

It's been actually more than two years that I've been working on this project, on and off occasionally. Time goes by. If you haven't tried Thinker yet, make sure to download it for the most extensive AI overhaul - by far - this game has yet seen.

And why would you not? Hope someone is going to try to speedrun this. :P In some ways it would play a lot differently than with vanilla AI but on the other hand, all of the diplomacy is pretty much unchanged. Though the AI might act a little differently in diplomacy because in this mod, it would be in a much stronger relative position economically.

Just because I feel like I played enough of SMAC already, and because I always feel that speedruns are more applicable to an original game rather than a modded moving target.
