I am not sure if this is a bluff, but it could well be. However, I am of the opinion we respond in kind. We should connect copper, build a few axes and then pay our neighbors to the south a visit. Once we have axes, we should not be in any trouble. It does hurt us in the beginning, but we cant do anything about it. I dont think we should offer any concessions. We had every right to settle on the hill tile.
We can open up diplo and see if they are willing to negotiate peace, but the fact that they have killed our scout, and reduced our capacity to work tiles for the past 5 or so turns is sufficient damage (we shouldnt concede any further). If they force us to plant copper city, and its a bluff on their part, I dont think we should make peace at that point, and we need to do some damage to their territory, and try and salvage something out of this war.
If it turns out that this is a genuine attack, then we will still be better off since defending is easier than attacking in this game.
Also, with the options you hav listed out waterbat, should we grow to size 3. This would allow us to whip the settler and reduce the number of turns we get the settler out by 1.

Wanted to grow earlier, but we rejected that plan We can whip the same number of citizens at size 2. Are you saying incorporate a whip into the chop plan? This should shave another 2 turns hmm. Let me try to work that.

Your plan looks good, Waterbat. The only thing is, why build a Road 1W of Barbados? Even without building the Road, the city will be founded T44 just by walking into the Forest.
I don't think whipping away a 3/3 or 4/0 tile would be a good idea.

Ah, because 1SW would require three roads instead of two.

Okay, I can shave off a turn of Copper being connected, at the cost of two half-roads towards Tortuga. The Workers are currently named A and B, with A 3SW of Barbados and A 1W of Barbados.
T38 A moves 1SW of Barbados, B moves onto the Forest 2W1N of Barbados
T39 A moves 1W of Barbados, begins to road. B starts chopping forest (1/3)
T40 A completes Road 1W of Barbados.
T41 B completes chopping the Forest. A moves onto the tile that B just cleared and begins Roading.
T42 A completes the Road, B moves on to the Copper.
T43 Settler moves on to the designated spot. B starts Roading the Copper. A moves on to the hill.
T44 B completes Roading the Copper, A starts Mining.
T45 B and A both Mine, completing the Mine. Copper is connected T45.

@thestick: looks like a good plan. If we dont connect copper any earlier than turn 45, then settling bronze city earlier is not such a big bonus. We can save a whip for emergency.
If we can hold out until t45 at Tortuga, will we be able to whip an axe if required? Or do we still need to connect it to capital with a road?
Worst case, I think we should whip an axe at Capital (once it is size 3), move it to tortuga and clear any warriors that are in the way, start growing our capital. Continue building axes/spear at tortuga until we research pottery. One axe and one spear should make us relatively safe for any short term invasions...

ahh - you are chopping the tile 1N of the spices and then roading it - i hadnt considered that - i was chopping the riverside. a couple of things:
1) we will have to road the spices eventually - save turns then
2) chopping the riverside grass where a cottage could go seemed preferable to chopping the other tile
but can't argue with faster copper. kp: we will have to connect tortuga to get an axe there. even if we beeline it after the copper plan - it will be turn 50 before tortuga is connected.

Chopping the tile on the way to the Copper city seems pretty obvious, saves a Worker turn on moving. So we're going with the T45 plan?
The downside is that the copper won't be connected to Tortuga, and we'll have to slowly walk our Axe there until a road is built. Not much we can do about that...
Also, I don't think we've actually swapped to Hunting yet. Whoops.
Can someone else play? I need to sleep.
