Or make it a loan. If they need the gold urgently to fend of CFC, they will be happy to repay it afterwards. If they simply want to leech the score leader of cash, they probably will be less inclined to do so.
The offering and grating of gold loans is a friendly gesture is it not?

We should jump at the opportunity to befriend CivFr and cement our common emnity with CFC. I like Zak's draft, let's polish it a bit more and send that.

Just to throw my 2c : GIVING money to civfr seems to be an extremely clear (and visible) violation of the NAP with CFC.
[just imagine your reaction if CFC were to give lots of cash to the germans (with the war already declared) to speed their research to Feudalism]
IF you wanted to pretend to follow the NAP letter, you better have to find a good explanation to cover it (I guess overselling/overbuying health/lux or probably overpaying in GPT for an Open Border might be a possibility)

No, it's not. Our agreement only forbids unit gifting. They know we're giving Zulu ivory right now, for instance, and they know it's allowed in our agreement.

Yes but even tying it to a loan isn't wise right now without a better grasp on what their intentions are.

Giving them gold to fund GA powered research is one heck of a gift that would require a significant level of interest for us to get an equal benefit out of it.

Even an MDP guarantees us nothing other than a declaration of war if we are attacked. And there's no guarantee after that they will actually attack.

Having CivFr as an ally would be great, but lets not jump straight into bed when we haven't figured out if they are worth the effort of sleeping with them yet.

By all means talk about co-operation but making an actual offer is risky right now. Lets see what exactly they want and if this war actually turns considerably hotter

Agreed, his variant is the one I'm most on board with right now. Here it is for reference:

Draft to CivFr Wrote:Wow, that sounds like a very dirty trick by CFC. I'm sorry to hear that - they have been very difficult to us too. We are currently bound to a NAP with CFC until T175, and we are in the middle of our own war anyway as you might have seen.

However, we talked about it as a team and we'd be happy to help you guys out somehow. We are finishing Engineering at the end of T152 and really don't want to delay that, but after that we can spare some gold if it would help you in your conflict with CFC. We're making about X gold per turn at max tax. Also, you can run the trade mission in one of our cities if you'd like. Unlike some, we are an honest team, so if you can make it that far we will not give you any trouble.

Maybe we can work together in the future - it seems to me that we may have common enemies. We do have full maps on CFC, so if you want, we could also exchange maps with you.

Thanks,
scooter - Team RB

Once the German team ends turn and we can get in-game, if someone could fill in the "X" that would be great.

I see people saying we could finish Engineering EoT151, which is this turn. My understanding is that's not for sure by any stretch, and it heavily depends on capturing the German team city and getting a good amount of capture gold.

edit: I added a clause "it it would help in your conflict with CFC" - I think that may be better? To alleviate fears that it just helps them blitz through more economic techs or whatever.

I'm actually rather wary about giving gold to civ.fr without some hard assurances on their part. Telling them that we are willing to give gold with said assurances is fine by me, however.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

I like your edit, Scooter.

I also think the first sentence of the second paragraph should be changed to something like:

"However, we still want to do what we can to assist you."
If you know what I mean.

Agreed. Asking what their purpose of the loan would be is simple prudence.
Furthermore, I consider that forum views should be fluid in width

Note that in my draft, we're not actually promising much. We're just playing the ball back in their court.
