My thinking about overflow is that we either put it into stuff that we can finish relatively quickly (like putting 30H of overflow into a catapult), or for long-term investments (like economic buildings). Putting the overflow into a knight will still need to finish it with 3Hpt.
GM is at 38/40. If we 3-pop whip the knight we will be at size 7, with 44/34 in the box.
T150: size 8, 27/36 +6 -> 33/36
T151: size 8, 33/36 +6 -> 39/36 -> size 9, 21/38
T152: size 9, 21/38 +6 -> 27/38
T153: size 9, 27/38 +6 -> 33/38
T154: size 9, 33/38 +6 -> 39/38 -> size 10, 20/40
T155: 10, 26/40
T156, 10, 32/40
T157: 10, 38/40
T158: 10, 44/40 -> size 11, 24/42
So we can easily grow back 4 pop, put a few hammers in a new knight late in the whip cycle, and 3-pop whip it on T159, going back to size 8. By taking over the last flood plains we can even push the city to +7F so we can reach size 12 with the T169 cycle. This way we also take good advantage of the forge+OR bonus.
Furthermore, I consider that forum views should be fluid in width

I'm not saying that we should build wealth in all of our cities... And I'm not saying that we should start before we have even declared to Germans...
I'm saying that wealth-boosted research is something that we should definitely keep in mind during the next phase of the game. In 5 turns we are lot wiser regarding our position.

I agree that dead hammers are to be avoided. So in GM I would put the whip overflow into a knight, and whip that knight too once we have coast tiles to whip away. Those hammers would be dead for a shorter time than the grocer hammers.
I have to run.

Is this a problem?
In order to claim the second half of the timer, aren't we (and WPC) supposed to play after Inca on the turn before the war declaration? WPC clearly ended turn an hour before Team Germany.

Nah it's fine I imagine. No advantage is gained by WPC by letting the German team effectively double-move them.

OK, that CivStats screenshot makes me feel a hell of a lot better. Germans team whipped... two cities?!
They are no slaze, that's for sure. Maybe this invasion will go smoothly after all. I tend to be pretty pessimistic about these things.

Maybe they wanted to finish their libraries on this turn.
Edit: On a more serious note, tehre's the possibility they are waiting to whip a longbow in each city when they reach Feudalism. But a bunch of scattered longbows isn't that troublesome, so time is definetely an advantage here.

In case anyone's wondering, we are simply waiting on CFC to finish with their half of the T149 turn and roll over to T150. Hopefully that will happen sometime today. There is literally nothing else to do until that happens.

I am concerned that this mod is going to slow the game down a snails pace with 5 teams at war. do we know for sure there won't be something like a 4 or 5 way split? haha. I know there are two separate wars, but this dumb mod my not recognize that.
Please don't go. The drones need you. They look up to you.
