... If the Spanish are dead, why would CFC care about the ivory trade? It was just a poor gamble on our part.

Mostly because we foolishly expected some competence in either the Spanish or WPC. We knew the Spanish were dead, we just didn't think they'd roll over like that.

Well the point is that CFC wouldn't care about the ivory trade because CivSpan is dead either way.

As much as I want to tell CFC to screw off, they aren't going to care what we say to them. I think we should still send something anyway, but threatening the NAP with this probably isn't going to help. If they bring up the Ivory, then we let them know we're happy to cancel the Ivory as soon as the game lets us, and we would appreciate it if they move their chariot away on first opportunity as well.

Or better, don't say a word to CFC, and just pillage the damn tiles ourselves. It's something a pair of workers and a handful of maces could do over a few turns.

I take us back to the apolyton situation. Scooter was firm with them, saying while technically it may not be a NAP violation, they should stop pillaging if they value any future relations with us. As far as I know, they stopped pillaging. Let's take the same approach with CFC.

The concern is for future pillaging of the mature towns in core Germania. We do need to say something.

something like this:

Quote:CFC,

You are pillaging tiles in range of our conquered cities. We understand a war is inevitable, and we understand trying to arrange a dogpile. Those are honorable means to catch the leader. However pillaging neutral lands near our new cities needs to stop.

If a dogpile happens, it is our best interest to attack one side fiercely to get them out of the fight. Continuing to pillage our lands would be a great way to help us decide which side that is.

Yeah, if we choose to respond this is probably the best kind of response.

Yeah, let's send something along those lines to them, sooner rather than later (so we can reasonably send a followup if they don't respond and keep pillaging next turn), and work from there. No use thinking too far ahead before we see what they have to say to a simple request to stop.

I don't see any downside to asking.

Meh.. I wonder whether it's worth the bandwidth. The best way to deal with a troll is to ignore them. Telling them we are displeased will just mean they'll look for more opportunities to piss us off. Besides, other than a straight up NAP with the usual bells and whistles, what other sort of deal might we be willing to stomach from them at this point that isn't lopsided in our favor?
