Diplomacy Master Thread- Helping Your Opponents Beat Themselves

The ivory is not relevant.

Either we want CFC to stop pillaging us or not. If we want them to stop, we need to say and do things that will motivate them to stop. If not, then presumably we're okay with it, along with whatever other aggressive actions they can come up with over the next 22 turns.

This is why it's important to stand up to their BS. It's not some silly revenge thing or pride thing, but a matter of incentives. CFC's history with us tells them they can get away with it.

I've never really cared about the actions CFC has already taken. The past is the past and won't change. I don't care if they apologize, either. What matters is the actions they haven't taken yet, and whether we can prevent them from taking them. If that means we have to kill their chariot, we kill it. We'd be idiots to leave them around pillaging our towns.

Some of you guys are missing the obvious. CFC has so far never agreed to or abided by any part of a deal unless they considered it in their favor at the time. They still desire peace with us! We'd already be at war if they didn't, but they've learned step by step that we'll allow them to get away with anything and still maintain peace.

For now, keep it short and simple with no wiggle room. "Stop pillaging us." Then it's up to them to decide if there will be consequences.

something like this:

Quote:CFC,

You are pillaging tiles in range of our conquered cities. We understand a war is inevitable, and we understand trying to arrange a dogpile. Those are honorable means to catch the leader. However pillaging neutral lands near our new cities needs to stop.

If a dogpile happens, it is our best interest to attack one side fiercely to get them out of the fight. Continuing to pillage our lands would be a great way to help us decide which side that is.

I like this as well.

"in the BFC of new lands", not "near" - be specific.

They don't give a damn about honour. And besides, it's completely unquantifiable and will fall under different definitions for different people.

I say we threaten cancelling the resource gifts, and also position a knight in our border city. If they say "sure, go ahead and cancel them", they can't turn around and call it a NAP violation because they implicitly changed the terms of the deal themselves. Of course, they could refuse and call our bluff.

Wish we had a chariot in their land, that we could use to counterthreaten them with our own pillages. frown

Build 3-4 and run them over there. We should do that so that we can keep tabs on them. They have one in our south.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Yeah, unless you can counterthreaten, that's just an impotent whine.

Why do you say that? All they did was bend the truth about marble in an unverifiable wayso they could do a ridiculous Taj gamble you didn't forsee when drafting the agreement. This did not violate the letter of the NAP. Its not like RB has the moral high ground to argue 'spirit of the agreement' after the ivory shenanigans.

Been ~12h, sheesh, so impatient!

What are WPC after? Acknowledgement of their message, or more tactical data? If just the former, that's easy, our head diplo guy has been busy, this is Lord Parkin, nice to meet you.
