Ceil, please post that. Please also post a request for the game admin to make a ruling on future similar gifts.
Diplomacy Master Thread- Helping Your Opponents Beat Themselves

I thought we were very slow playing any admin involvement.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

I don't think we've added in asking for an admin ruling. We have in the past been staunchly against mid game rule changes... it's a dangerous precedent.
Edit: Posted Quote:This turn we received an offer from the Spanish to gift us their remaining gold and gpt. We find it a nice gesture of friendship, but from an in-game perspective we don't think it's appropriate for a dying civ to gift all their assets to their favorite rival. That could be very unbalancing in unfair and un-fun ways, so we declined the Spanish offer.
Ceiliazul got a reply on CFC ...

Can we please squash the 'elephant gift' ... it was a trade that increased the happy cap for both teams. Yes, I know that we just wanted to get ivory in their hands for WEs ... but we cannot let assertions like that pass without correcting. And - more predictably, other teams don't see any problem with taking gold from dying teams. We are isolating ourselves here for zero benefit. As I (and others) have said before, this approach has zero chance working. The approach that I have outlined (accept gold, divide by 8 and redistribute to all teams with the higher placed teams taking the rounding penalty if any) has a chance of working - I don't think that anyone has commented on it.

Yeah, please point out that we had more theaters than markets. Not a gift.

If we're to reply at all (and I still think a long discussion on the matter will hurt us rather than help), then I'd simply state that in our experience, resource trades don't have the same unbalancing effect. They're a way to prop up weaker teams, and they're inherently limited. Gold gifts propel the strong teams forward, and are unlimited. A weak team can easily kingmake the whole game with gold gifts, if they start before their last turn.
I certainly wouldn't bicker whether the ivory was a trade or a gift. Then again, that might sound entirely self-serving. Perhaps we simply state that in our experience, resource trades can't unbalance a game like gold gifts can, and leave it at that. |
