[SPOILERS] Roland and Suboptimal Team Up

Turn 35

Astrology is in, start Writing.

Warrior in capital is fully healed. I start moving it north in case I need reinforcements. It’ll stick to the river valley near the City #3 site so that it can act as a settler escort when the time comes. The other warrior takes a break and Battlecry, healing back up to almost full strength (98/100). I should be able to clear that camp next turn. I move my slinger to the northeast, but just one tile. The spear will take two attacks to kill – Roland, if you move the slinger out I’ll start on the warrior on my next turn.

At sea I round the southwest tip of the island:

It’s another 1-city sized island but this one is a bit more interesting. The spot NW of the wheat might be completely out of sight from the sea, depending on what is NE of the wheat. However, I plan on going SW next turn to check out the next island in the chain. One interesting note:

Someone used a non-standard map generator – grassland rainforests are not part of the standard package. Interesting.

Next turn the second galley will be out. I’m going to send that one east instead of south and see what’s in that direction. Once I clear the camp I’ll buy the spot for the Holy Site and lock that in. It’ll take 6-7 turns to complete once the settler is done.

Archduke is definitely working a cultural resource – he’s got his third civic. He’s still tracking with everyone else on domestic tourists so it seems like he’s not getting inspirations yet.

TURN 36

Firstly inter turn we met Norway down by your boat somewhere.

He is doing very well on science and culture for someone who has no districts. Must have some city state stuff going on.

Stonehenge finishes.

Spearman had ran a way so I go over the river. He seems not to be heading for the camp of course. ppffft

Land in the west is good and a fair bit of it it seems.

Drama and Poetry revealed.

9Icon_Science and 5Icon_Culture is big this early. It's not going to be Pingala because he only has two civics completed. We know he's met at least one city-state but you don't get free envoys, so he must have completed a quest. Dunno if he's found a natural wonder. Most likely scenario is that he beelined Writing, built a high-adjacency Campus and went monument-first in his second city. It's also not good that we found him that early unless this is a ship-to-ship meeting. That might also change my plans for my next galley...might want to keep it close by for the time being.

Up north I think you were planning to go up there to explore, so you've got your chance. lol I'll send my slinger NE towards the probable camp location

The Classical civics tree is convoluted. Looks like the civic below Drama and Poetry has only one prerequisite (the third one down in the first column) while the bottom one in the second column has two (the top and bottom of the first column). D&P only has one pre-requisite.

he isn't getting great scientist points.

perhaps a natural wonder. perhaps he finished the campus this turn.

Ah yes...forgot about the Archery eureka there. Hopefully the barb goes NE and you can chase it around the mountain.

It's possible that the Campus did finish on his last turn. Districts that finish on a turn don't generate any yields or GPP but do cause the yield totals to update.

Turn 36

So...we met Woden on his last turn down by my galley. Interesting. What’s also interesting is that I’ve also met Ljubljana, which Roland did not on his turn. That’s...weird. Anyway, here’s a screenshot of the situation, which is a repeat of Roland’s earlier one:

What’s really interesting here is that Ljubljana only has 9 milpower. Wonder if he’s just wandering around with a badly injured starting warrior and doing a farmer’s gambit? If so that’s an admirable play...until the barbarians show up and you’ve got a district, two cities, only one defender and the barbarians have gone safeties off. Then, you die.

We’ve seen Woden, so what’s Ljubljana got?

Mercury and turtles. That explains that Icon_Science rate to some degree.

So, which way to go? As I said last turn, southwest. I move two tiles and oh looky, a boat!

One movement left….which...way...to...go? (OK, I said that in my head in the manner of the guy that did the commercial for Zelda: The Adventures of Link for the original NES in the US….OCTOROKS! lol) I go southeast because that should be a little more interesting…

Nope, not really. Roland, any thoughts on heading south to find where these guys are or west to continue checking out islands?

You Can Call Me Al buys a second galley. That gets the Shipbuilding eureka. So, the tech tree:

Looks like my next move is Wheel → Bronze Working → Shipbuilding. Good thing I don’t need to clear any trees yet. Eight turns to the next boat. I might buy the next one in Obvious Child.

On land the warrior clears the barbarian camp. That’s two units down and I expect the scout to come over for a visit. If it does I’ll kill it and “reveal” Bronze Working. I use the barb cash to buy the open plains and lock the Holy Site. Four more turns on the settler. Warrior at the capital moves west, slinger moves NE-NW and is in view of the spearman.

Let’s see what it does.

Looking at the scores and tourists and whatnot it appears that Ljubljana has landed an inspiration as he’s jumped to 5 tourists.

I need to go over the era score situation to see how I get another 11 points. The Holy Site will get me three for being splendid, if I take the barbarian camp that’s another two. Gonna have to peruse the list and get creative. Maybe I can leave the eastern area in fog and another camp will spawn…

Neither of them have a campus.

Indeed I am the only person with a district.

They must be doing something with tiles. Quite something. Working 3 at least with science on them.

I think you head towards then at least 1 city state that way?

good chance you can get some era score from meetings. perhaps even natural wonders
