I have difficulty with some accents in the english language and I fear I speak way worse than I write. We could try, but it's likely you'll have to repeat a lot of things, a lot of times. I think we're reasonably settled on primarily text-based communication.
Mainly working out the method now. Tasunke has an aversion to gchat for some reason, but everyone who's responded so far seems to be OK with IRC as an alternative.

Was mainly to ease things up if/when we get a situation where we're like "OK, everyone's online, let's push through this encounter / talky section" I believe. Which does have a rather limited field of availability, given the spread of timezones.

I wasn't particularly wanting to do this in Voice-chat ...
I was mainly talking about Skype in general. I like its text based commuications too ...
But yea, Voice chat can be awesome in Blazing Turn Timer Simultaneous games

For our purposes, IRC is fine. I'd prefer to comandeer because it would be zero effort for me, and the only people using it have comandeered it from its original purpose (as the original FFH creators are long gone) ... but meh, I guess I could *try* something else.

yes, typing
/join #newchannel
when you connect to the server (or just the first time, if you take the time to set it up right) is a significant expenditure of effort...

Oh I dunno ...
Step 1) find a good IRC, or find Mibbit
Step 2) install, etc, run program
Step 3) Join the right server
Setp 4) finally ... type /join #channel
yea ... so freakin easy
(to join #erebus through mibbit, all I have to do is click on a link. No looking for the server #erebus is on, no trying to install a Mibbit program ... just a simple link)
Then I just type my name and click 'Join' ... and done. No looking for servers, etc. But I agree, assuming someone is already on an IRC server, and makes the channel on the server they are familiar with ... yea, all you need to do is type /join, or even less than that, as you say.

You're representing things falsely in an attempt to prove a point.
Minimal steps required to be using a new channel:
click the same link
/join #newchannel
even mibbit, as terrible as it is for everything not involving skirting port restrictions, is capable of that...

I can put up a link here for any mibbet IRC channel that will take you directly to the server and channel and all you have to do is type your username just like your Erebus link.

Text >>>>>>> Voice (unless you're playing a game where taking the time to type gets you killed) so I'm glad we got that sorted out. And I'm a native english speaker, I just prefer the ease of text chat (and hate phones unless I know the person well, voice comms are just phones).
IRC works, gchat works (but actually I have some technical difficulties with multichats not displaying people's nicks, so IRC is better), skype isn't happening. I'm always on IRC anyway so it's actually the minimal effort solution, as once we have a server/channel I'll just leave myself idling in it
I dunno how well blitz sessions on Saturdays would work out for me - my weekends are always busier with real life stuff. Every once in a while would probably be OK, but I don't think I can make it a regular (or terribly short notice) thing, sorry :/

On a different note - the discussion in the game thread about the public face of the party ... I'm not sure my "no idea, you guys who know what you're doing make a decision" was coming through the roleplay clearly enough (Probably coz I put some character-appropriate fluff about loot division in & we got sidetracked). Basically I don't know what's influencing the choice, so I don't know what's sensible.

I don't know what's determining it either, I just felt out options 'til one felt right, and then backtracked to get reasons for it
I mean, uh... I went for the one that offered the highest income, without having to cross the whole country and engage in diplomacy. Yeah, that's it.
