Some thoughts before I disappear. It's cathartic...

So this is why we were declared on.



I don't know why they couldn't just have closed borders with us, apart from that Shoot wouldn't have been able to kill our Great Merchant (which I think is a bit unnecessary if they are going to close borders, but there you go).

To recap, the diplomatic situation before the war declarations was as follows:

Shoot - no specific agreements but friendly, and had recently agreed to let our Great Merchant complete a trade mission. So killing our Great Merchant is not cool.

Darrell - open discussion plus specific agreement for Open Borders. To wit:

"Egypt and Straight Talkers will sign open borders. To prevent Egypt from joining in an embargo, open borders should be for an extended period of time, say 50 turns."

Kyan - Open Borders in exchange for not settling two nearby islands. In the process of discussing an NAP. Ah yes, another classic.

Rego - Open Borders for cash agreement - I don't think we put a minimum time on it.

So, no-one really in the clear...

Well guys this came faster then i believed you are punished because you play good and what i said about great lighose just a trouble maker.Well killing the great merchant its an shameles think after you discused and he agred to let you to go on with the trade route.

I feel very sad for you and a litle bit angry( i dont know why),and i dont think there is any way to rezist to such a big dogpile.

That must feel terrible. I know if it was me I'd be at risk of just bailing. Particularly darrell's and shoot's actions seem unconscionable, based on your list of agreements.

If it's any consolation, it seems all your opponents in what I'd call the most-skilled RB game so far just seem to have voted you the best player(s), and effectively conceded their integrity in lieu of conceding the game. So congrats on that well-deserved honor.

Thanks for the support guys. I'm tempted to just declare us the moral winners and continue this game Always War style. Don't feel like working the diplo to salvage the chance of a win.

Owning in PBEM 13 and 17, you guys are quite a team. Keep it up

I took a look at the save and I'm feeling better. Our demos are pretty good, so we should be able to hurt those who hurt us. Our power is already #1, and we already have two chariots completing this turn. In addition we have two 3-move galleys and we can build triremes. I'd say triremes in cash cow and trading post, no more settling abroad, and go full military mode. Our scientists should be able to give us some military techs in short order. Hunting->Archery to defend our cities, should give us nice overflow into Iron Working, Construction and Machinery. Then we can go Feudalism perhaps for Vassalage and then Civil Service for Maces.

We can run max tax the next few turns while researching cheap techs, and save gold for emergency upgrades.

Do you agree with AW as our general game plan going forward?

I don't want to start cutting deals with some of the players to get back at others, in my eyes they all share the reponsibility for the stab. In practice us going AW may favour Rego as he's farthest away from us, but that's how it goes. The other players can only thank themselves for that. Of course, us going AW may end up favouring Darrell and Shoot the Moon as well, as they could conquer us.

I'm happy to (continue to) do the turnplaying for a while if you need a break from the game. (You can entertain yourself by posting insults in the UN thread. )
