My bet is that the warrior threatening my scout was completed last turn and moved this turn. I can't tell that for sure, but here is 2c down on that situation.

Maybe I should have moved to the forested hill ... that extra 50% defensive bonus would come in useful. And I probably would have been able to see his capital.

Killed my scout - as expected.
Founded a new city - the alternative line did see a settler out and about
Offered me peace - I don't think the Celts understand the meaning of the word pogrom.
That said, his warrior semi-crush is now understandable ... he was blocking me from moving so that he could pink dot me.
The only problem is that he pink dotted me. I am moving my units towards his new city. Let's see how he handles a semi-crush.

He has a warrior in the city, two on a worker on food and a road to that city. My warriors are a coin flip against his warriors but my archers are ... - 94% against a warrior on the flat (ie his food)
- 60% against a warrior in that city (no fortification)

Situation Update

Each of those icons represents two units except the lone warrior in the city.
The double warrior and worker moved off the wheat this turn. They were lucky ... as I was thinking of attacking (50%) with both my warriors.
Possible outcome ...
2 x win - yay, free worker and XP
2 x loss - no worries, archers in coming and warriors would be hurt
win / loss - fine - I get more XP as I am attacking
As it stands ... - archer v warrior in city (45%) ... that 5% fortification dropped the odds from 60 to 45%
10% fortification drops it to 43%
that doesn't sound right ... I think I recall that the odds calc can't really handle drill promotions
I might have to simulate that one out
- archer v warrior on hill ... 81%
- Celtic added another warrior
