Can I ask for a peace time turn split for the purpose of looting in neutral territory?
Reply

Well I sent Mr. Cairo a pm to this effect. If I can't ask for a peace time turn split for looting you could advise Mr. Cairo to ignore my pm.

Any update for us here? smile

I'm reporting in my Civforum.de thread.

Depends how you are informed from other threads. Mjmd declared war on me while I had units in Giras territory and was about to assault Cairo's last island fortress. He razed one of my cities which I refounded and we have peace again because he couldn't make any gains. This war hurt me a lot though. I had to take out a loan and research Machinery and Engineering both of which I did not want at that time. Machinery in particular prevents the Liberalism bulb. Some of the cities captured from Cairo are unhappy now. Cairo's island will finally fall next turn.

I still do not have an economy as such. I'm at like +40 gpt at 0% research, I can improve this to around 100-150 in the short term which is still not close to competitive. Next goals are Compass -> Optics for circumnavigation and Paper -> Education bulb for cheap universities. I will likely have to go back to wealth builds and mass Rep specialists to get anywhere. I may send some elephants to Gira again. They would be OK vs cavalry but useless vs rifles. On the other hand, Mjmd might attack me again.

Noble razed a core city from Amicalola which is very bad (Amicalola is the only one vaguely in the same league as Noble) and made peace with Gira which is also bad. Amicalola also gave Noble peace earlier. This is not good for them in the medium to long term. My wildlly unlikely path to victory lies in Amicalola and Gira slowing down Noble and me eating Mjmd with Cuirs.

@SD, lurkers: It seems Amicalola and Gira are done with this game taking 5-8 minute turns. I do not wish to chain them to it if they really don't want to play though it is disappointing. So I'm willing to concede to Noble if the others are. I do hope I'm wrong though.

Economic situation is looking much better. Up to +300 gpt with moderate/slight wealth builds. I have whipped some universities and will start Oxford next turn. I will also shortly start my 3rd GA (or 4th counting Taj) and try to reach either Rifling or Steel/Military Science and then partially bulb Astronomy. We'll see how far I can get. The idea is to harass Noble's coastline, maybe take some of his islands. Could also found some island cities myself. Of course, Noble can easily counter with Astronomy but that will obsolete his Colossus atleast and place even more demands on his resources. I would also be able to ship cannons to Amicalola or Gira to defend their borders.

My elephant stack is back in Gira's territory after I had to teleport it back home when Mjmd attacked me.

Game doesn't look completely hopeless anymore. I still think I need more land to compete in the long run but we need to contain Noble first.

Btw SD, those islands in the inland sea are way too much. Just putting a couple gold resources and maybe 2 food sources there would have been plenty to make them desirable since there is no gold elsewhere. I suppose they are extremely hard to defend with every civ being able to reach them very quickly once they have astronomy.

What do you think our odds were (rough gestimate) on actually stopping Noble?

Low but not completely hopeless. Noble was close to MGs but it is still hard to defend so many points. Once he got to destroyers the game really would have been over.

The timing for the attack didn't quite work out since I made a mistake. I wanted to bulb Astronomy but missed that with my tech SciMeth would have priority. So I decided to stay in caste for another GA which would have come in ~7 turns. However, I would have needed slavery to make enough boats since my coastal cities sucked. Grenadiers I did have in sufficient numbers.
