I would object to thrawn getting Sumer now.

As best I can sum up: Thrawn read into a few stray comments in the organizing thread that, like, Kaiser was completely altering the map or something, and objected that his pick of Norway was therefore suboptimal (hi, sub!) and demanded either the map be tailored to his specifications or he'd walk? THEN, when people tried to reassure him that, no, the map wasn't going to be that different from PBEM20, he still held his walkout as a possibility but also graciously allowed that he might still play if he can pick a new civ. Ugh. I don't know how I feel. I hate the idea of rerolls now that everything is chosen and I hate the idea that objecting enough in the tech thread gets you that ability, but also the whole point is to have fun? Whatever. I don't want to decide. Gonna sleep on it.

I thought Sumer was banned, like Woden, but ljub and thrawn didn't, probably because they're relatively new to Civ 6 (ie, last 2-3 years instead of last 4 like me and Woden). So, whatever, let him have it. Or if I said, no, you CAN'T switch civs after map creation because you have "buyer's remorse" and you CAN'T take a civ from the ban list like Sumer, would thrawn throw a hissy fit and quit? I expect so! Whatever. The whole thing, like I said, is mind-bogglingly stupid. This also happened in previous PBEMs with thrawn, and will be a significant factor for me to consider before I join future ones.

Ljubljana, how about we play a duel at some point in the future and you guys find a way to play without me? C'mon.

It's been ages since I read through any PBEM3 threads, it was kind of underreported. I might go through some of my opponent's old threads and post quotes here with commentary to spice this place up.
I know it's been a dull thread, boyos, well below my usual standard.

I don't know if I'll be playing in a match with thrawn again. His need for control and micromanagement is too much of a clash in styles for me - I prefer to roll with the punches and see how you can adapt to what comes up in front of you, rather than choosing the 'best' possible start for my civs. Coupled with the constant stream of chatter and I just find it kinna abrasive.
Sorry for mostly using this thread to bitch thus far, I want to get to content later but with the start of the school year and a new wife and family at home it's hard to find enough time.

eh, looks like default is fine. Gotta reef to boost my coastal campus and mountains/woods for my holy site, Phoenicia likes harbor spots and has a nice inland campus down the road.
OLORAM for Phoenicia and GotOS for me, looks like. Really, no luxuries nearby? Interesting.
