Living off the Land

Yup. smile

You'll have to do a lot of living off the land with at least one hero and most professions are represented in at the requirement so two comments on that:

- You don't get the choice of go "Monk-only". The game won't let you.

- But heroes are quite well tuned to living off the land kind of circumstances anyway. And they even provide a handy optional rune sink!

PS. About write ups and reports... I'm surprised that nobody has suggested "Call of the Wild" yet. nod

Zed-F - Dervish
Ok, we have far too many dervishes here. Plus, I will probably want to play through the game with a dervish faster than LoL will really allow for. (Once I've got a good amount of progress made with my paragon.)

We haven't had much mesmer love within RB, and we've got enough melee guys already. So, make mine a mesmer. smile

So what's the status on the rules?

Cap sigs purchasing? Y/N
Armor Crafting? Y/N Collector's armor? Y/N. Collector's only is neat but not practical.
Hero skill restrictions? Character found only? Fellow team member unlocking counts? Account wide?

Team specific theme: Nightfall skills only, or explore elsewhere?
Free skills from "Experts" in noob area: Y/N? These.
Hero Skills?

General theme of LoL is use what you find. However, some details are flexible.

Personally, I think it'd be most interesting to use skills capped from bosses, any boss, but never purchased from skill trainers. Free skills & cap sigs excluded.

The first post in the thread has been updated with the latest rules. Check there.

The basic deal is no purchasing anything except ID and salvage kits. I plan to purchase Xunlai Access so I can at least dump unwanted stuff on my other chars. I don't think this goes against the spirit of the rules.

7. Hero Skills?

1) N
2) N
3) Y -- so far, not too hard to collect for most armour pieces
4) So far, no restrictions have been placed on what skills heroes can use. In particular, it would be a pain to try to remember wich skills you've unlocked for your heroes during the LoL games and which you came across at other times. Plus it doesn't look like we will be able to acquire enough hero skills on our LoL characters specifically, who need to save them for their own unlocks, to be able to afford to 'waste' them unlocking skills for our heroes. Accordingly I'd tend to think that whatever restrictions we might want to place on the skills our heroes can use, if any, should be minimal and easily followed. That said, it is a subject worthy of consideration, though we do plan to minimize the use of heroes to those missions where we are forced to use one hero or another, and when doing side quests on our own time.
5) As far as team plans go, so far it looks like Nightfall storyline. After that, we'll see. You probably won't be able to get Factions- or Prophecies-specific skills from a Nightfall hero skills NPC. What you do in your own time with respect to picking up Prophecies or Factions skills is up to you, though you probably won't be allowed to use them when we're doing the team variant.
6) Y, in fact you can't avoid it and still progress with primary quests.
7) Hero Skills are the main way we will unlock skills for our chars, aside from noob skills.

We should get a quest which will give us a pair of cap sigs to use to grab a couple elite skills. Those will probably be the only elites allowed for these characters unless you can later on use hero skills to snag them.

As far as capturing additional skills beyond what you can get with questing and hero skill points, i.e. for use when you're playing the character outside the context of LoL, feel free, but don't include them when you're playing LoL. You'll need to keep track of which skills and equipment you've earned 'legitimately' (according to the rules of LoL) and use only that when playing the team variant. If this amounts to remembering 2 elite skills out of however many you've capped, that's probably pretty easy. If you start to mix in equipment and regular skills... could get messy. wink

EDIT: Upon rereading your question, and making better sense of it, I reorganized my answer a bit.

A note to add to the first post: Preorder items are allowed to be used.

Do we want to put any restrictions on what skills heroes can use, or is that too much of a pain to bother with? (Actually I think the 'first contact' rule is too much of a pain to bother with, but whatever.) wink

I already have the preorder thing covered, it's with the weapons restriction rule.

About what skills heroes can use... Considering we have 7 people for the variant, we probably won't be needing to make much use of heroes. When we do, I think we should limit them to core and Nightfall skills only, just as with players, that seems to make sense.

edit: Oh yeah, I'm not so sure what you mean by the "first contact" rule. Is that in regard to the one about making contact with an enemy?

Yup. My issue with it is that it's largely irrelevant in a group setting, and easy to forget in a non-group setting. But I don't really consider it core to the idea of 'living off the land' anyway. smile

Well, I put it in well before the NF preview and stuff, when we didn't know how heroes would work (and before we had the roster filled out). Think of it more as a laundry list item put in because I didn't want to forget anything.
