Hey Cornflakes, I understand. Sorry to see you drop out, but yeah, without consistent schedule it gets very hard in the long term.

@catwalk

I was understanding that you would have dedlurked Cornflakes and helped on the days he is unavailable. Do you want to take the free spot or are you going back to lurking?

@slowcheetah

Same question as for catwalk. Now that we have a spot available, would you like to take it instead of dedlurking?

Settings (in green those which are agreed already by the majority)

a) Diplo:

AI-diplo: Serdoa, Lego, Old Harry
AW: -
Full Diplo: -

b) Bans?

- Nukes yes / no? Yes: Serdoa, Lego, Old Harry
- War Elephants yes / no? Yes: Serdoa, Lego, Old Harry
- Corporations yes / no? Yes: Serdoa, Lego, Old Harry

- Statue of Zeus yes / no?

As for SoZ: I know that it was banned sometimes because War Weariness is simply a dumb mechanic which can lead to you winning the war decisively and still having to fight several unhappy in your cities. SoZ is just making a bad mechanic even worse. That said, I have not experienced those issues myself and though I can see the reason for it (and thats why I voted to ban it) I am not opposed to simply leave it in.

c) Civ / Leader Bans?

No Bans: Serdoa, Lego, Old Harry

d) Picking Method?

- Snake Pick
- Reversed Turn Order
- Point Buy

I guess we will decide that together with the map but most probable for me seems Snake Pick right now as both Old Harry and Lego stated that they would like it. If we do Snake Pick, I'd like to suggest that we leave the decision if we go 5-4-3-2-1-1-2-3-4-5 or 1-2-3-4-5-5-4-3-2-1 to the last in turn order. I can see either ways having its merits (first one gives you first pick, second one gives you both picks at the same time for more synergy) and I think due to the trade-route bug the last in turn order should get some advantage.

e) Variants?

Seems we in general would like to play a fairly normal game, maybe with a point buy method but apart from that no extra stuff (like starting with a worker, scattered improvements on the map etc.)

f) Map-Type?

We need to discuss this a little bit more. Azza seems to like a smaller map (32x32 I'd guess) while I would like a bigger one (40x40). Old Harry has no preference and Lego I believe is also fine with whatever we decide.

For that point, I have to say I would really like to go with Sevens mapscript, simply because it is mirrored and therefore balanced and still produced the most interesting maps I've seen so far. That of course means 40x40 as BRick pointed out. Also his hand-crafted map seems to work best at 40x40. That 40x40 is the best map-dimension simply for the reason that you can divide 40x40 evely between 4 and 5. 4 is necessary for Civ4-code reasons - I had really big issues in 33 getting 35x40 to work properly - and 5 is necessary to divide it between 5 players.

g) Scout-Starts

Also needs to be decided upon. That would take away the starting military unit (warrior or scout) for everyone and replace it with a scout. I'm fine with that but don't really care either way.

I'm still up for dedlurking, won't be signing up. Harry, Lego, anyone want me? Also up for lurking you Azza, if you want to update smile I'll sign up with anyone, so whoever is fastest wins the prize! Note that I have poor judgement and provide absolutely no guarantee you'll be better off with me on board wink

Are you currently planning on doing a normal snake pick with no bans? I still think double reverse will overall be fairer than normal snake pick, whether it's normal or reversed. Even if last in turn order gets an advantage with it, I think this advantage is smaller than first in turn order gets with a normal snake pick.

Okay, put me as a yes for soz ban..

I like your idea for last player choosing pick order.

And can we just add enough water to the 40*40 map?

To avoid getting some kind of reputation I'd better say I'll only be getting drunk on days that end in -y.

Oh, and sorry to see you drop out cornflakes - couldn't catwalk follow your plan on the days you can't play?

I have a gut feeling that five players would be better than four, but if no-one else comes forward I'm happy to go with four...

If I had to cover more than one day per week, it might be a bit much for me. It seems like all players currently signed up are Europeans? Might be possible to do a few small blitz sessions early on, especially if it's a 4 player game.

You can lurk me if you want Catwalk. Serdoa thank you for being organised in this.

Sold to the kid with the blocks! Other than winning the whole thing, I suggest that our secondary goal be to stomp on whomever slowcheetah ends up dedlurking. How does everybody feel about 4 vs 5 players? Once we have our roster, we can ask for a forum to be set up.

I'm ok with a 40x40 map if that's what it comes down to. I'd be perfectly happy to compromise with a 40x40 with more water to reduce the land a bit, I just don't really want a map where you can safely build 15-20 cities that you have legitimate claims over like 33 or 37.

Hi slowcheetah, I'd appreciate a ded-lurker. Especially as it seems to come with a free blood-feud with Lego and Catwalk!

It's not so much a blood feud, more an observation that whoever slowcheetah advises is likely to be easy pickings. I agree with Azza's points about map size.
