It'll certainly be a wonderful city for the lucky opponent who will conquer me.
There's a way to bypass having to choose a tech on turn 0, right? Do I lose anything by doing it? If not, i could do it and move the save forward.

Looking a bit closer at the screenshot you probably do want AH first. You can have the cows improved 1 turn earlier than the corn, since a pasture is just 3 turns. And the cows are 6-yield (plus 1 commerce) whereas the corn is 5-yield. Improving the cows and then the corn will take 10 turns in total, doing the corn and then the cows will take 9. But I think getting the better yields earlier outweighs that. I don't think you'll be able to grow any sooner to size 3 by improving the corn first, either.
I have to run.

Just don't select a tech. The game won't force you to t0. You don't lose any beakers.

Testing showed that both approaches are very similar, but I get some much needed warrior hammers improving the cows first. It's also more flexible regarding my next techs, I can still test and change plans (though I'm liking going pottery after AH).
So, AH first it is. Though there's no loss by not selecting any tech right now, I guess.

Thanks. I did that. No reason not to, if I'm not losing anything.

Regarding the game, I'm worried. My land is too good and I have a feeling I'll botch it. I need to sandbox things some more, but it'll have to wait a bit.
Look at that corn + cow + shareable corn city! Holy powerful city, Batman. Loads of riverside and grass tiles too. Need to scout more to see if I should put a coastal city there or a city on the river.
My initial sandbox had me improving that sheep for the second city and it fitted pretty well. That plus a chop and whip made a very quick granary (and there was workable cottages up too). Hopefully there's another food resource there, so I can plant this earlier than the other spot. It has instant TRs too.
Well, need to factor strategic resources there too. I really don't want to lose due to lacking military and "Oh, look at my beautiful Sandbox" strategy.

The sheep city looks like a really powerful production city, by the way. It'll build my late game wonders, since I don't plan for the earlier ones. Expand first!
