[SPOILERS] HitAnyKey, the Sleeping Giant

Figured I would do an update of "this game that hates me"....

Barbs, barbs, and MOAR BARBS!!!!

The two incoming from the SE should hopefully be stoppable. Tyler's actually has 2 Warriors in it right now to fend off those two barbs. Plus it has culture bonus. So that one should survive.
However, I just planted Berri Yummi this turn and it displayed that second barb. I saw the 1st one before I settled the city, but figured getting the city planted and the warrior forted this turn, he had a decent chance against the incoming barb. But now that I see two of them there...it's likely I'll lose that nice new city in 2 turns.
The Warrior in Brew HaHa has been fortified to get it's full 25% bonus, plus it has C1. So it should also survive easily. I'm more worried about it's threat on the workers and/or breaking my nice new road which will have the Iron hooked up next turn.

Other small comments. The reason I still have so much gold in my Treasury is that since this is going to be a tough map I made the decision to use failgold to keep my research going. I got a good amount of failgold from TGL (which I was fully trying to actually get). After that failed I was about to start putting turns into Oracle, but it was completed by Khan (I believe) the same turn I was going to start it. So instead put a few turns into Pyramids while growing Bella Vista. I just switched that city to the Worker, which I might whip next turn for overflow into Pyramids (or maybe a replacement Settler, since I may lose one or more of these cities I've built). But basically I don't expect to ever get the Pyramids, but the failgold is something I think I need. Tyler's just grew end of turn, so next turn it will start a Worker. I desperately need more of those for cottaging.
Khan is asking for OB every single turn, but I am not going to give OB to the TGL winner. He has currently only met me & Brick, and neither of us have given him OB.
I'm still the only person to have met everyone. Commodore has met (and now has OB with) me, Brick, & Sian. Sian only has OB with Commodore (and has not met Brick or Khan yet). I see no reason to give OB to Sian until I have a count of cities such that I'm not getting full trade routes. Right now each city is getting 2gpt from Commodore. I'm not even getting any benefit from my OB with Brick anymore.

I currently don't really have much of a plan, other than to try to get some Gallic's built as soon as that Iron is hooked up. I do need to get a Temple built ASAP as well to start getting some GP points. Then need to decide if it's better for me to then settle a GP (for my PHI trait) or build my Shrine or bulb something. But first things first....I NEED TO SURVIVE THESE DAMN BARBARIANS!!!!!

And now for the promised map of the world I've been saying I would do. I thought about trying to stitch it together at some point, but just too busy and too much work right now.

The only borders I haven't found yet are Sian, but I'm almost positive he's in that darkness to the NW of Commodore (my far West).
Commodore and Brick are very close, across the water from each other. So that looks like a possible conflict zone. But they are also both directly (separated by that ice island) north of me.
Sian is so far from me and across another one of those massive deserts that I don't know where his conflict zone will be. Depending on where exactly the map wraps, he might be close to Khan...but Sian is in the far northern hemisphere with Khan in the far southern. But they might be diagonally close to each other.

The only person in this game that I have played with is Commodore. So no idea what the other 3 will do. Plus this map itself probably alters a lot of people's normal playstyles. I'm going to probably need to figure out a way to rush someone with Gallic's at some point. My first candidate would have been Brick, except for that close proximity of Commodore. So maybe Khan? But that is also so far away. Then again, everything is far away with vast wastelands between them.

So,...did you keep Berri?

No doubt GJ finds this naming scheme much better.

Yes, that lone warrior survived both barb warrior attacks. smile
And yes, I'm sure GJ loves it.

Right now my scout is getting a nice exploration done of Commodore's territory while my other scout is starting to enter Khan territory. Comm also has a Chariot that just reached Berri, so I'm sure he'll be sending it around inside my borders to see all the lovely crappy land I have. He's got much better resource placement than me. And already a few Hamlets working their way to Village status.

It's mystery to be figured out. shades

I was going to ask for a land overview with resource bubbles on, but then realized the bubbles were probably already on, there's just nothing but desert and plains tiles to see. pat

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon

LOL. The bubbles were not on, but close enough. You can't have both the culture borders and resource bubbles, and I was wanting to more specifically be able to show where my neighbors were on the map.

But I can list all the resources near me quite concisely:
1. Cow 1W of capital, with Clam 1S of it.
2. Iron 1N of that northern city, with Sheep (I think it was) 2W of it and that Fish 1N2E of it. This is the first my Settler first started near.
3. Dry Wheat 1S of that western city.
4. There's that Cow on the plains tile the my NE.

And that's it. The city to the west does that those two Oasis in the BFC, and my southern city has no resources at all.

Cow + clam, that sounds like a definite national epic waiting to happen!

So haven't posted an update in awhile, so figured I'd do a quick one.
Just finished T77, in which I got my first Great Engineer. Over the past good number of turns I quickly spawned out a few settlers while building the Hanging Gardens. On this map, with my land having like NO food bonuses or fresh water, decided I needed that insta population boom. Plus I wanted more wonders in my capital to make use of my GPP bonus trait. I was able to build it pretty quickly with still receiving Stone from Khan and with all my mines around my capital. So got it finished the turn after I settled my 8th city. More important than that to me right now, that wonder increased my Great Engineer pool (with already having the Pyramids).
Now with this GE in hand, I'm researching Calendar. I think it'll be like 7 or 8 turns before I finish the research, but once I do that GE will immediately be used to build MoM in my capital. Still trying to decide if there's a reason to do so in one of the other cities. But at this point, I'm leaning towards getting this one city pumping out GPPs as quickly as possible.
This past turn I also saw that Khan declared war on Brick. Not sure if it's still just another looking into borders move, or just a killing of a scout. Guess I'll find out in a turn or two based on whether they sign peace again.
Commodore has taken the lead (not surprisingly), especially since after seeing basically all his land....he's got LUSH land compared to me...and even compared to many others. Lots of grass, lots of forests, lots of resources. Also based on the fact that he already has Ivory & Silk in his diplo window, that means he's already researched Calendar & Construction. Also that he has expanded up along the coast north of him towards Sian (as that's where the Ivory is). He also just razed a barb city that I was going towards with the hopes of eventually capturing it (since it had the only Horses near me in it's first ring). So I'll just have to settle a city there at some point. It's just pretty far away, just like all my next city options. With his Size 9 capital, still with a lot of forests around it, I'm betting he's already working on MoM. So I'm in a race for it, and could likely lose if I don't get the tech researched in time.
Anyway, I didn't feel like doing any screenshots today. Maybe I'll do so next time, or if anyone actually cares enough to request something specific. smile
