Myrran retort

Quote:I'd personally suggest that seravy switch it to 1 pick, for himself only, for his next 10-12 games;

This is fairly hard to change so not sure I can do it as a "my version only" change. I guess I can try to turn it into a patch file and roll it back for public releases if needed but then I need to make sure I don't miss any detail when doing it.
Also with the game state as is (AI difficulty and Myrran races still having major balance problems, and sorcery being poorly tested) I'd not be able to judge if the change breaks balance or not very well but at least it helps not losing testing games to lack of spells...

10-12 games though, that's like, half a year.

I was thinking you'd just give yourself 13 picks.

And you'd only need to do it for the games you were going to play/test myrran.

Oh, well that's an option but then the AI's are 1 pick short which is a pretty big deal.

No, I think it might be better to just have the cost reduction official in 5.02 and get more player feedback about it - at this point I think the question is more along the lines of what nerf if any Myrran needs at 1 pick, but we want it cost 1 anyway.

Fair enough.

Most of my wins are by picking myrran. Making it one pick would require some myrran plane balancing (removing the 2X node bonus for example? lowering the rate of certain minerals?) and/or weakening all myrran races and/or making raiders/rampaging monsters much more aggressive.

I liked the reduced pressure on Myrran from the lower number of wizards. I think that it should count for one retort on its own. Another option could then be to create a new retort that lets you play 2v2, and having Myrran cost 1 for the races, treasure and terrain.

We still need to make the beastmen a bit better (unless I've missed some other balancing) and the draconians a bit worse.

I realized one thing. "Better treasure" is not a real advantage. By that, I mean, at the time you can crack high end nodes and lairs, you can also crack towers. So no matter where you start, you gain access to high end lairs at the same time. Obviously distance is a factor, but a marginal one if you use a stack enemies don't attack on the way.

So treasure contributes nothing to the value of Myrran through high end nodes and lairs aside from not having to walk to the nearest tower to access it. Low end is slightly better but at that stage of the game, the slightly stronger defenders easily outweigh this advantage on the added treasure, and you won't find much high end stuff like books in these. (not that you are going to get any - in my experience the AI wipes these from the map using their nagas before you even discover them nowadays. )

For me its physical access to stronger nodes. Much harder to guard myrror nodes from arcanus. But also, some of the medium lairs can go either to AI or human, and physical access tends to determine that

just a fast idea: what if myrran comes with a built-in hefty diplomatic penalty to arcanus wizards? this way you could maybe even go back to myrran leaving you alone on the alternate plane. it would of course be a very different experience from a standard game, but maybe it's not a bad thing

Draconian nerf: Remove bowmen. They still have other ranged units, and they shouldn't be a one-trick pony.
Myrran nerf: 2+2 wizards or based on difficulty level.

Those changes balance 1 cost Myrran nicely.
