Thanks Bandit/Rommel.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.
Playing an MP game with a modded version of Civ4 on Mac is absolutely possible because we had people who did exactly that in earlier games. AFAIK some kind of Windows emulator is a way to go.

Do I remember correctly that they had the best system of all Civ games? I can easily see myself getting back to CTP, as I have some fond memories about it; but I first need to play some SP to remember game mechanics (February 14th, 2018, 08:57)Gavagai Wrote:the greatest ideea i might say, there is stack limit, you can have just 9 units in one stack and in fight you have strategic thing and compozition of the stack si very important as there are units with high atack, low deffence, you would had cavalry , infantry in front and archers canons , muskets in back. And of course later era there are some futuriscs units but man i can tell you that CTP is realy feeling like and looks like an epic game.Micromanage is getting tedious in latter era,but well you are running a huge empier cant be easy.(you have no overfloww). To bad they didnt developed this system more becasue there still can be some buggy fights. About the interface i find it great, after you get use it with it I can say is better then civ4.(February 13th, 2018, 13:14)mackoti Wrote:(February 13th, 2018, 13:09)Dark Savant Wrote:(February 13th, 2018, 12:04)Boldly Going Nowhere Wrote: This is part of the corporate branding for my civ. I really liked CTP's combat system, where stacked units would enter combat together and ranged units would provide support to melee. I also like that it allowed unit stacking but limited it to 9/tile thus preventing mega-stacks but providing more options than 1 UPT. I actually stumbled across my CTP disk a month or two ago when my wife forced me to clean out some dusty corner ... I might be convinced to dust it off if I can remember which slighly-less-dust corner I stashed it in to preserve it from the purge
After a little bit of fighting I have managed it work on PlayOnMac. One last issue to solve was that initially I have installed RtR to "My Documents/My Games" instead of into main "C:/Program Files/Steam/..." and the game was failing on loading with quickly disappearing error message: "the save file you have selected is protected to ensure that the assets in your mod folder have not been changed.".
I have clicked my turn. I'd win or lose combats without a general idea of how unit strengths, sheer numbers, or flanking vs. ranged vs. melee contributed to the combat result. In most other strategy games, you get a decent feel for that with a few games' experience. I do think limited stacking is in general a superior system to any of the all-or-none system of Civ 1/2, the megastacks of Civ 3/4, or one-unit-per-tile of Civ 5/6. Plenty of other games have it too, though most of those games have controlled tactical combat and I doubt that's the way to go for Civ. These views are not from Russian bots (unlike those threads above me in views). These are real views from real Americans civvers who want to make civ great (grate on your nerves?) again. MCGA! I think it has a nice ring to it. Stop by my thread for some merch. |
