GA was the right call, of course. Your greatest weakness is currently the lack of military tech, and Paper isn't even on a road to Guilds. Try to get to Knoghts ASAP and ypu are in a stable shape.

Just gotta knock out Monarchy and Feudalism, then we got Guilds. Doubt we can clear all that in this GA, though. Should at least get Monarchy, and just teched Monotheism, so can revolt to HR and OR (yay, higher civic costs) which will help with happy and infrastructure, respectively. Downsides to OR: The cost, and hinduism is the most widespread religion for us, which CH founded and has a shrine for. But spreading an OR religion to places like Pacifica would really help with whipping things into Moai Statues.
Been a little busy but here's a quick summary:
Think I can steam most of the way to Guilds on 50% science. Moved my stack next to Yamato this turn and added boat reinforcements. Question for non-spoiled lurkers: I have.... 6-7 catapults. The city has 60% defenses and at the moment, 3 pikes are the only units that benefit from that defense. Is there any use in bombarding some of that defense away, or just send in the suicide cats? I want to keep a few cats for future attacks, so I was thinking bombard with all but 2 or 3, because I only need to do a little bit of collateral damage, I think. Oh, and CH is adding Knights to his long border with me. Every turn I wonder when I'm just going to lose 3-4 cities all of a sudden. ![]()
Yeah, I can build 'em. I think only Soos can build them and have them get Formation out of the gate, though. Soos is building a courthouse now, though, a 2-turn build. I'm inclined to let it finish because I need the extra cash savings and the additional EPs wouldn't hurt, either.
Also, I have apparently built enough courthouses to build the FP, but I have no idea where to put it. Directly opposite the capital makes sense.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.
Yeah. I'll have to take a look next time I'm in game. Unless I have a handy image somewhere here..... If I had to make a guess, it'd end up in Blendin Blandin. I'm not in a fortunate enough position to be able to place my FP in anticipation of conquest. At least, Blendin would be a decent enough spot because it has good hammer potential.
Turn 160 War Report
The juicy stuff you lurkers love. I should probably do a more thorough domestic report at some point, but ahhh.... That's a lot of work. So this is how I moved in last turn: This also highlights how I am incapable of learning from even recent past mistakes. :/ Grimace just sailed that Trireme away from the city and towards my territory. It will most likely rip up a fishing net before I can catch it. I really only needed to send in two Triremes as escort. Last turn is when Grimace threw what he had at my stack. He killed nothing, but roughed my soldiers up quite a bit. I suppose it makes sense for him to attack out with the units that don't get defensive bonuses. Battle of Yamato Bombarded defenses of city with catapults down to 5%. 1: CR3 Catapult vs Pikeman (85.5%) = WIN! 2: Shock Axeman vs Pikeman (85.7%) = WIN! 3: CR1 Swordsman vs Pikeman (95.8%) = WIN! 4: Swordsman vs Pikeman (99.9%) = WIN! So everything went smoothly here. The city even kept some nice improvements. In 4 turns, I'll probably be getting 14 or so extra trade routes. Maybe more, it depends on what will count as coastal. At long-last, the Great Lighthouse is mine, as was always destined..... Battle of Enterprise 1: Flank2 Keshik vs Axeman (1.8%) = LOSS (2 hits) 2: Flank2 Keshik vs WE (1.5%) = LOSS (1 hit) 3: C3 Keshik vs WE (29.8%) = LOSS (2 hits) 4: C3A Keshik vs Axe (69.9%) = WIN! 5: FormationA Keshik vs WE (97%) = LOSS!! D: 6: Cleaned it up with another Keshik. Yeah, so battle 5 sucked. I'm also a little peeved that neither Flanking 2 Keshik withdrew, but overall I guess I'm in no position to complain. Battle 4 was important, because that was a 17XP Keshik (probably 19 XP now)? Just shy of getting that Level 6 promotion, which will unlock that nice military wonder if I ever live long enough to build it. Scanned the horizon for additional threats. Nothing much to be seen. Nice haul. I kinda wonder if Elum will pillage the nearby improvements just to be spiteful, though. They are still in technically hostile territory. I considered sending a Fish-For-Fish deal to see how he'd take that, but decided against it for now. I haven't seen many of his units nearby, but his power is still considerable and he's fielding advanced units like Knights and Crossbowmen. So here's how things stand. I'm not sure how rapid of an advance I can make without waiting for some of my units to heal, but if I wait, Bismarck might fall to Elum, and I don't want that. If I can take that city myself, it'll ensure a larger share of the territorial loot for me. In any case, I'll probably have to allow for the catapults to advance, because I don't have enough Keshiks to break that defense, even if they were all healthy. Oh, and it's a holy city. I am not sure if Grimace built a shrine. I'll have to double check that. I am rather surprised to see all these forests still here, plus that unimproved incense near the capital. Did he never research Calendar? On a world diplomacy note, Ipecac is CH's largest trading partner at the moment, trading several resources at what I view as a disadvantage (ivory to CH in exchange for wine, for example). Does have Berserkers, though, which I think are going after a war-weakened Rome. Golden Age demographics. Could be worse, but could be a lot better, too. I've got a handful of my cities, including one of my good production cities, building research to help us tech what we need. Feudalism will finish at the end of this turn, and we should have Guilds in 2-3, before the GA finishes. I think after Guilds I'm going to grab Compass to get some Harbors into key cities to boost trade revenue. Plus Grocers in key commerce centers. The power graph I find interesting. The top three contenders are all very close in power (then there's me, geographically in the middle and currently lacking modern military tech, so that's scary). Zulu and Rome are clearly somewhat exhausted from their battles. I was really hoping John's Zulu could be a strong counterpoint to the HRE, but I think that if CH invades me, I'll find no help from that quarter. The Vikings are on the rise, and currently at war with Rome, so we'll see what happens there. Korea is on its way out of the world, though it's not over. Grimace, I think you've made better tactical moves than I have in most circumstances. Biggest mistake on your end of this war was trying to attack me with your big stack, assuming your objective was to survive longer in the game. On the domestic front, well.... I'd love to swap some more cities over to War Elephants, but many are halfway through Courthouses that they desperately need, and Blendin is finishing a Forge, then a Courthouse, probably? I might reassess in a bit. Now that I'm in OR, I might want to spread the state religion to cities before investing in more infrastructure. Get a few more units out. I'm sure having those new cities come out of revolt will raise maintenance across the board. Not sure what that "conquerer's threshold" is for this map size. |
