No iron so no swords, it means we'll need more units than otherwise. I have some questions about the attack : assuming we face several numidian cavs and have hwachas to destroy melee units, shouldn't we have more spears ? Of course the hwacha's bonus means it'll target non-melee like archers or numids more often than not so we might end up facing a bunch of melees after we sent the hwachas to suicide. So I'd like to hear your opinion. Our tech path is construction-HBR right ?

Yeah sadly. Although actually we have a spare silver thinking about it - I'm sure a distant neighbour would take an iron for silver trade - assumes someone else has iron though. And spears I see us mainly needing for stack defence. Numids will have very good odds on us in the open... Actually do you think gavagi would take a silver / ivory trade? Would help hugely defend Numids... Plus it signals that we are gonna war with GJ to him so he might be happy to give it up to help us both grind each other down...
Hatch was will normally target archers first, although I expect not to find too many of them. Then whether they target horses or melee is hard to say. Generally on the hills they will hit melee first as they get a fort bonus plus hill bonus plus cultural def bonus. On flats normally Horses first. We should be in a situation after the hatchway that it doesn't matter too much what units we use, so a mix is good and those new swords would have been excellent!

I think getting either iron or ivory for our spare silver could be really smart play here

I finally got to take a look at how things are going, I didn't move any units on the mainland because I wasn't sure what to do with them (I didn't end turn, northern barb warrior is dead), but I think the iron in the north is attainable if we make a settler now (and an archer or two to defend the city). Here's the alternative dotmap, we can settle the other sites later of course :
I also looked at the west of the map, no wonder Commodore is middle of the pack in score, his land is pretty bad. He's got jungle and calendar resources to his east (to the point that a city just a few tiles NNE of his cap is unviable till calendar). His triple gems location is on the other side of that jungle, so nothing to be done for the early game, just look at our triple silver with two of them viable in a second city.

You didn't seem to be around so I ended turn, and sent all axemen east and the archer in the galley to reach SdF for defense.

Sorry turn playing is patchy this weekend being out. Just think of whips possible - we need to boost prod! I don't think the iron settle is worth it tbf. I think trying to get Ivory off gavagi will be much more useful for our war plans!

We were last to play today, I went in and played both turns.
Here's what Gavagai sent us :
I'm not sure why he asks us for our maps, we sure don't need his so I considered that it might be a gesture of friendship. Also the fact that our scout has been next to his land for like 15 turns might have something to do with it. Anyway I decided to answer it with this :
We just got construction and GJ will not be expecting elephants, it would be awesome if he accepted. Also (I hope) it makes him understand that we're going to war. If he wants to pile in all the better. No one has iron except GJ so we wouldn't be losing an opportunity to trade Iron/silver. Anyway we'll be getting a second incense soon, I was just waiting for the units to arrive so they can protect the workers. GJ now has the possibility for numids, finishing archery last turn. The chariot in the north killed a barb warrior for a 5/5xp, dunno what he should take (if anything). Also I'm waiting on your answer for the iron city in the north. We're currently building hwachas in a couple cities, one of them could be changed to a settler.
Edit : Haha just saw your post, I can always start whipping stuff but it makes me sad to stay small now that we have a high happy cap... Also they'd be mostly 1pop whips that aren't very efficient happiness wise (although more efficient in dead pop/hammers).

See the above post - I don't think the settle is worth it in the timeframe. It'll delay and attack too much I think. Plus with eles we should be ok. If he says no offer it with incense
If he doesn't have it.
Also as an aside is it alphabet that allows spy building in this mod too? If so we shouldn't stage our whole army in MCG as GJ may have built one to sit in there as for warning.

I logged in to double whip a barrack in RB, taking away two coast tiles. Yes it's alphabet that unlocks spies, if he is indeed spying on us we won't be able to hide much from him, he can use our roads to have a look at our whole east anytime. What's more worrying IMO is that while our power has risen a lot (from last to 5th a few turns ago) GJ's has always been above us in that graph. Not sure what he's preparing.

Well turns out we'll be fighting west, not east. Of course lurkers must know all about it from Dreylin's thread, but we can't know anything beyond the DoW until the turn rolls. Is it just a war for the island ? Strange because we're giving them lots of ICTRs with our OB.
