Just a reminder that predictions for Game Eight will be closing this evening, in roughly 8 more hours. There's still time to submit an entry for anyone who hasn't done so yet.
March Madness: Civ4 AI Edition
|
Winner: Bismarck (really likes his start)
Runner Up: Hannibal First to Die: This is the tough one in my mind ... Asoka? Number of Survivors: 4 Victory Date and Type: Diplo, t303
Winner: Mao
Runner Up: Hannibal (score leader) First to Die: Churchill Number of Survivors: 4 Victory Date and Type: Space, T403
Winner: Wang Kon
Runner Up: Hannibal First to Die: Asoka # of Remaining Civs: 3 Victory Type/Date: T297, Space I like Wang Kon's mix of gold/science flavors and aggressiveness, I feel that he will swallow Asoka due to religious differences and better manage his empire than most, it won't be the largest yet but he'll swallow Bismarck or someone. Hannibal will leap out to do well with Financial Flood Plains and be a close 2nd. Asoka dies first to Wang Kon (He didn't Wang Kon tonight). Ends up space. Tempted to say 4 but I think Bismarck will end up swallowed, last civ is probably Mao.
Winner: Bismark
Second: Mao First to Die: Churchill Remaining Civs: 4 Victory: Diplomatic, T315 (March 12th, 2024, 07:40)naufragar Wrote:"But naufragar, I want to be an emperor, not a product manager." Soon, my bloodthirsty friend, soon.
Apologies for posting this late, I wasn't able to get everything uploaded until now. Predictions for Game Eight are now closed, we'll put together the results soon and move on to the Wildcard game. Here's the written report. This one was even better than Game Seven.

Very nice game. Sorry about missing this for a while and I'm glad someone decided to continue an AI tournament. I know how hard it can be to keep reporting on these games.
Yay! I knew you could do it, Cyrus! I always believed in you, I told you you shouldn't listen to all those people who said you wouldn't amount to anything!
...although boy was I wrong about Mao. And MAN, Asoka!! Who knew you were such a sneaky sneaking sneakity-sneak! I am going to be a LOT more careful around you in my future games. That was... boy, that was something to watch. My predictions were way off-kilter for the most part but WHO CARES that was doggone exciting!
The check for victory conditions is done just after the global turn roll. Asoka would not have won, he did not control his third legendary city at that time after Mao captured it.
Quote:The Indian leader played an amazing diplomatic game, one that was just barely enough to ensure his survival. Asoka realized in the midgame that he could never survive against the larger and more warlike leaders to the west. He therefore chose to play a stalling game, sacrificing leader after leader to his enemies in exhange for more time to push towards space. I enjoy the narrative writeup, but we programmers know the AI isn't nearly that clever. Aside from the AP vote, Asoka's survival was coincidental fallout from the aggregate of the war-planning dice rolls. |
