That's correct. Now in the new turn (i'll report tomorrow, going to bed soon), Ruff took that city back and it razed. My guess is it's because the city was Size 1? But I thought you are always able to take back your own city. Come to think of it, the city was originally Commodore's IIRC. Did I just answer my own question?

It defaulted to a Theatre because I had loaded all desirable buildings in the queue before this war started so I didn't have to keep checking what was needed. But don't worry, I have been replacing those builds with military when I see them. BUT WAIT: I just rechecked the save and found that 2 Banks were queued. Changed those to Knights, of course, so I can whip them as Cuirassiers. Thanks for the heads up!

I really don't think so, especially since I drafted two more Muskets --- one in Oswego and one in Duquesne that I was able to send there as well. Oswego is protected by 9 Muskets now (13 units total), so I will be curious how Ruff approaches that with his stack of 25. He does have several Knights with C2 + Pinch though.

I had no idea if you had other units nearby to retake One More Day, it was worth a shot. If you hadn't had them available retep would have lingered one more turn. Nice job finishing there.
I'm enjoying your steady reporting with all the fighting, thanks!

Haha Xenu, your recapture really did throw me for a loop. I had just totally convinced myself that it wasn't happening under retep's watch so it was pretty easy pickins.
I am glad you like the reports. I do have a lot of fun putting them together. I'm just not sure how steady they will remain now that the turns are back to 24 again. Speaking of which, time to make the donuts...
Turn 201 Combat Recap - everything actually went right for once!
Powergraph
Here you can see how the Gavagai/HAK battle took its toll on both parties...again (more on that in a moment). Also Ruff's arc over the last few turns is pretty impressive --- will we be able to drop it just as sharply?
City Happiness
I am posting this one for Adrien, but I also have a question. In all my games, I have never been alerted that "people are telling us of your villiany." Is that spywork or something? If so, Commodore picked the wrong city.
No war weariness yet though...
Oswego
The march toward Oswego continued, with Ruff's stack of 25 smartly crossing the river for better odds. Also, my prediction in Frontenac came true as that wounded stack joined the other Muskets in holding down the city.
I had one Catapult in Oswego and decided to hit the stack with it, despite my previous thoughts on doing so. I was hoping it would deter Ruff from knowing that there'd be more. In fact, by the end of the turn I would have 13 Knights and 6 Cats milling about Duquesne with more on the way.
The last thing to do here was to draft some more Muskets. Back in the BC's I never would have thought how important it would be to have Duquesne 3 tiles from Oswego. But because of that, we have 9 Muskets defending Oswego instead of 8.
The Hague and Vicinity
Same thing happened in the Hague as well, with Ruff consolidating his stacks within the city to heal.
And Ruff did send up that Medic WE to raze Damascus. Our Pikeman retaliated by taking the high odds shot and winning, but the pic below was leaked and our hero is now getting totally raked through the coals on Twitter.
This left me with a decision on how best to protect the injured Pikeman. I could have waltzed a Knight down from Rotterdam to cap the Maceman from Ulundi, but that would have left it vulnerable to the Musket stack in the Hague. I didn't want a daisy chain event that would lose us a Level 4 Knight, so I just trained that Knight for Shock and will try to hopefully get the Pike escorted to safety.
I also wanted to wait to take Ulundi until it was size 2 again. Because I might then be able to incorporate that city into a canal plan if I am able to secure this region.
Well, the inevitable walls are closing in, and we may soon find ourselves neighbors with HAK now too. The conquest of retep finally made a neighbor of Commodore but it appears that he has pulled back his forces after his conquest of retep's capital. For now.
But I am not sure what to make of the south...strange things a-brewin'
First of all, it looks like Gav has gathered all of his units into Utica, and city smack dab in the middle of his dwindling empire. Here is a pic of HAK's advancing on the city. There is a similar stack on the other side of the Carthaginian stronghold.
But then, what is that on the top of the screen? Gavagai is building Galleys?
Yep, he sure is. Is he planning on helping his refugees find a little slice of heaven in theis crazy world, or is he planning on dropping in on some hapless schuck that already has too much on his plate? I just moved a bunch of units off the island, so I am betting on the latter. He can pretty much see my every move up here due to his extensive culture that has been strangling Thaenae for years.
But I also have another reason to get some troops to the island. It's because Thaenae has a 7.5% chance of revolting. I was able to quell a revolt on the Hague awhile ago by adding just 3 units there. Looks like I will need to do the same here, which will serve a dual purpose if Gav lands here.
Now scroll back up to the galley picture and look at Hadrumetum. After all this time of plotting to get that city, it is going to fall to HAK uncontested the turn before our peace treaty ends!
OK, I'm over it. I am just going to stay vigilant against Gavagai and keep an eye on HAK too now. Also, the time is fast approaching when I may need to choose sides in the Commodore/HAK contest. Unless each of them decide to gobble us up instead. Should be fun!
People telling us of your villainy is the spy action, I assume it was Retep (or maybe xenu) having a spy in the area near the end with nothing else to do.
I actually expected Gavagai to take Hadrumetum and Kerkouane but only one city captured was shown on civstats. We're not bordering him for at least one more turn. But thankfully that will stop Thenae revolting.
Why are you was waiting for Ulundi to regrow to size 2? If it has ever been size 2 it won't auto raze, doesn't matter if it's size 1 now. Just needs to have grown at some point in the past.

You mean HAK? Yeah, he has them both now. He seems to to have retreated his units from Kerkouane though. More on this region soon...

Actually the main reason for not taking Ulundi was that I didn't want to lose the Knight when Ruff takes the city back anyway. I just decided to add the part about Ulundi being Size 1 to showcase my lack of Civ knowledge.
Seriously, I take alot of precautions when I advance to unsure I end up with a net gain on the deal. More on that in a moment too...
I decided to report these two turns together so you can easliy view the cause and effect of the decisions I made to keep our empire intact. Despite this, the theme for today's show is ironically titled:
One Turn
Chapter 1: One Turn to Freedom. Wretched, Wretched Freedom (Gavagai)
Turn 203: The Plan
I had mentioned last turn that Gavagai has several Galleys in the southern channel. Upon closer inspection of the region, I found that he had landed 7 workers there and 2 Knights. Back in T202 (and perhaps 201) I was to busy protecting my mainland to really see the extent of what Gavagai had set up. But in the end I really didn't feel too foolish because there was not a damned thing I could do about it.
You see, Gavagai and I were about to end our recent peace agreement in one turn. So I had to just watch helplessly as Gavagai's Workers toiled away on a fort that would make naval passage to the island much more fluid. Just south of the workers were 4 Galleys, presumably filled with units.
Upon seeing this, I determined that I would send 5 more units (so 8 total) from Sainte Foy to Thaenae to not only counter this development, but also to quell the rioting there. To eliminate the Galley threat, I also staged all 5 Galleons in the city to avoid getting booted out by Gavagai's culture when he declared. This would give me a good jump on the Galleys to begin eliminating them on the next turn.
Turn 204: The Result
Well, so much for those aforementioned precautions. It was pretty obvious to me when I saw the activity on CivStats what had happened and made me really hesitant to log in. But when I did, this was the first place I looked. And Gavagai did indeed make his presence known on his old island stomping grounds by taking Thaenae, destroying the main part of my fleet (including my 5-mover) and settling a new city of Oea on the rubble that used to be Sicca. Not bad for a decade's work.
I haven't made a full assessment of Gavagai's strength here yet, but this move put the whole island up for grabs again...even Chesapeake. It also had me muttering the term "5th place" to myself for the first time this game...
