One future suggestion would be to have the Lurker Code of Conduct stickied in all Pitboss subforums. Definitely think that would reduce the amount of confusion and mishaps for newcomers like me.

Peace is a pretty good move for him anyway IMO. Let the top three fight it out and he can try catch up, if he has a chance to get back in the game, that's it.

Yeah. If Scooter/Sulla and BGN had a long, friendly history together, or if REM and BGN had a long, acrimonious history together, I can see this as being a real bitter pill for Team Germany to swallow, but... BGN has pretty much kept to himself all game.

As it stands, it's not (and has never been) the responsibility of the 4th place player to give the current 2nd place player a better shot at winning, just as it wasn't on BGN to take Dreylin/OT4E down a peg back for REM's sake back when the Khmer were the guys on top.

I agree with both of these quotes. I've already done a wrap-up post in my thread, but these capture the gist of my/Xenu's position at the end of the game. If you're losing, you can't really lose more (just die) by throwing units away. Better to sit tight, tech/build up, and hope others pull the pack back to you.

That said, if I had been playing when Xenu took over I would not have signed peace unless bribed into it, but Xenu had no reason in front of him to make a decision to do that. I'd asked for a sub for long enough that I just threw my hands up and told him he'd have to play or sub or pause the game at that point so he did the best he could. I didn't think REM would do more fighting us at that point than rip up nets and sink whatever ships he could reach because I had enough infantry and cannons to prevent him invading over land by then. Or, more accurately, it would have been more trouble for him than it was worth. I would have liked to stop building units and instead turned hammers into tech but it's hard to sub in and say when you have enough military to live when everyone around you is constantly so much stronger. Not sure there was really ever a moment for us to do that.

Regarding lurkers making spoilery comments, I think it was mostly ok for the number of new folks posting. By far, I'd rather have new blood on the forums than no new registrations and less spoiler comments. Keep posting, new guys! And, now that we have your opinions down on record, play in some games so we can see you take your lumps. It isn't nearly as easy to make the right call every turn against so many quality opponents from a less omniscient point of view. Get in there and try it out. I'll be needing a game to ded-lurk here and there to keep me going when I don't have time to actually play so get started. Plenty of people around are willing to lend their experience for a fun cause.
