A really great map and I love the Astronomy land grab that is happening right now.
Looks like Commodore is settling in East Australia, while FinTourist is busy in West Australia.
TBS seems to have profited the least from his Astronomy push so far.

Not sure that’s true, he’s gotten more cities than OH & FinTourist have up to this point, and he hasn’t reported as recently so we don’t have as good an idea how his expansion is going. It might be true that he winds up claiming less land, but that’s because he’s got more irons in the fire than just claiming overseas territory. If he figures that getting Taj -> Constitution is more important than maximizing island acquisitions to the fullest extent possible, he’s probably right.

I think he's least excited about his Astronomy push, but I'm not sure he's actually failed to profit. For instance, he seems to have as many cities in 'North America' as Commodore does, and more cities in the territory split between him and FinHarry than FinHarry managed. He might actually have the most overseas cities, so far. I think he's not pushing as hard as his competitors but it's hard to be sure.

TBS is only one city ahead of Old Tourist though, and he started with more continental cities, right? And his breakeven tech rate does look to be quite stressed.
The map really does seem to be working well, and is undeniably more natural looking than the other maps we're made in the past. I wonder how the game is going to pan out from here, because whilst mack does look to be in a strong position until he actually kills nauf he isn't going to be able to exert pressure elsewhere on the map. The longer that takes, teh greater the window of opportunity for OT to grow to size, TBS to Taj his way into and end game economy and start rolling people, or someone else to do something unexpected (given the poor level of reporting from the other players).

There is pretty much 0 chance I would agree for a player in a game I'm in to abandon his civ and immediately replace another player in the same game. I'm stunned this isn't a bigger deal.

It appears the alternative is to abandon the game - they went a long while (a week?) on pause before Gav proposed this as an option. Certainly no global lurkers volunteered for BGN's civ; it's one thing to find the time to press enter and build more archers for OT4E, quite a different thing to acquire a civ with lots of land and potential.

I haven't followed the tech thread closely. Why did OT4E not just directly take over for BGN, rather than shuffling into Gav's civ with Gav taking BGN's?

Gav already posted a sub request due to not having fun with his set of neighbors, a while back. Apparently people consider him to be at risk of dropping out as a result, so were aiming to hopefully get him into a more fun position.

Curious when this game will just get called at what has been a slog of slow turns.

The game will likely end once 1-2 more players cease to participate, whether due to RL or ennui or whatever, as there are few if any replacements.
