[Spoiler] RB Pitboss #2 - Shaka of Rome

Let's see. Nar Shaddaa is out of revolt, so I'm hit with the (expected) 5.5 maintenance fee. 20% and losing money. Yay! I can build cottages faster than my cities can grow into them. Which is good, I guess, but I'd rather have them grow faster . . . .

I'll probably lose the tiles to Ryloth's west next turn. Oh well. Both my new acquisitions will be doing Libraries. Also, I sent a letter to plako basically telling him not to spend more EP on me. I was pretty sure that we agreed that he'd stop. Unfortunately, I realized after the fact that I left that exact wording out of the final version of the treaty, so I hope he won't nitpick like that, although I suppose he might if that's the only way he can fight back.

Also, sending 8 Preats away is going to strip me of most of my troops. I'll probably have to find the time to build a new domestic defense force, as well as a couple of Preats to handle that barb city before it spawns too much trouble. Yet I can't afford more units since I'm nearly broke. Oy vey.

Are your praets already out of your borders and/or have you considered your increased "unit supply" costs once they move out of your borders?

I'm quite aware of that particular "smack down." smile I'll actually be paying upkeep and supply for 12 units (8 Preatorians, and 4 Galleys), so that's going to be loads of fun. They are currently within my borders and won't leave until they have to.

I think that I'm going to try and get a Library up in every city, even Carida, just so I can hire as many Scientist Specialists as possible so that I can still produce some beakers at 0% science.

Do you know what the cash conversion would be should you lose Stonehenge? Is it worth saving with one turn to go to get some much needed cash or in your opinion is it better to carry on and complete? Obviously there is a risk with this that you may be waiting a long time for it to get built by someone else if you choose to wait.

I'm not sure what the exact conversion is, actually. I might look that up. I've been trying to decide if that's worth it. I'm obviously not going to expand much now, but the free monuments are good up to Astronomy, so it could still come in handy.

In BTS the return for partially-built wonders was changed to be 1 gold for each actual hammer invested (the same as building Wealth). That is, hammers invested pre-multipliers like "Industrious" or production-doublers.

In previous versions it was 1 gold for each hammer completed towards the wonder. Industrious civs could essentially build Wealth at 1.5 gold/hammer, and having the doubling resource for a wonder returned 2 gold/hammer.

I hope that this is a first:

Looks like a jungle island. Gold, Dyes, Bananas. This could be a very lucrative place to settle. Not that I could afford to expand right now. I'm barely keeping positive at 10%. I am really, truly afraid that shipping out my 8 Praetorians and 4 boats will bankrupt me. I think that I had better focus all of my cities on commerce in the short term to keep my empire afloat, even my production cities.

Confucianism was founded, so pretty sure that was Nakor/DMOC. They should be sending their Missionary to me.

Sorry I haven't been talkative lately. I kind of need a mental break from the game. Not much is going on besides my crap economy, anyway. Heh. Damn. I really wish I could get out of this war with India, but there's no way, and it has to be done. Their GNP is just monstrous.

Heh, now I understand why hoping for a Stonehenge refund so much...
Perhaps you should turn off science entirely so you have a bit saved up when you sail your attack force.
Are there any obsolete units you can ditch or gift away?

In theory, but in practice, not so much. I'm barely going to be left with enough troops to adequately garrison my territory. I know that I have a NAP with Korea, but considering the bad-blood between us, I am very scared of having only one Praetorian to guard the border towns. I only have a Warrior for the capital, and a Spearman for the other cities. I have two other warriors, but they're on fogbusting duty to the east, which is pretty valuable work.

If I can afford it, I'll build a "strike force" of two Praetorians, maybe three, to take out the Barbarian city for cash.

So, no, there's not a lot of places for me to save money.

On a random side note, I noticed wines near Nakor's borders. That's the only source of wines that I've seen on the whole map.

Tech plan: Once I limp to Meditation, I'll try to make it through Math, then Currency is probably the best plan, though Calendar would also be very nice.

Other plans: Explore the central isle thoroughly. Since I'll be dividing it up with my allies, I'd better find the choicest locations for myself. smile

Regarding my finances, there is another option, though I am loath to pursue it because it would mean publicly admitting to my weak economy, but if anyone is close to currency, I'd ask for a loan of cash in order to help me pay for all of my troops! Ugh.

If someone is near currency, maybe you could 'sell' some of your praetorians to the CoW for the attack on India, then you can contribute to the war without being crippled by distance costs - and use the extra money to pinch the best land on central island while they are all warring?

It also would mean you could give up on building galleys if this plan is possible!
