March Madness: Civ4 AI Edition

I wonder what would happen if he automatically spread the AP religion to his civ, provided that all of the other AIs have it as well.

Winner: Genghis Khan
Runner Up: Peter
First to Die: Asoka
Survivors: 3
Victory: Domination, T325

The warmongers (Genghis, Peter, Qin) start close to each other while the peaceniks (Asoka, Darius, Frederick, Washington) are widely scattered. Advantage: warmongers. Poor Asoka starts next to all three; he's doomed. Of the three, Imperialist Genghis has the best land and doesn't waste much time building wonders. He'll expand far and wide, and his strong production base should see him dominate the eastern half of the continent. Washington, Zara, and Frederick might try to keep out of the fighting and focus on technology; but if the last game is anything to go by, they won't be able to stand up to the sheer size of their enemies.

(Apologies, Parkin, for a nearly identical submission.)

Winner: Frederick
2nd guy: Washington
Favourite Victim: Asoka
Victory: Spaceship T 342
Survivors: 3. Ish.

Ghengis has decent land and neighbours to kill, but he will war too often and too early, so he'll eventually be left behind techwise. Frederick will profit the most from this, as he will expand & tech along until he becomes 'the Great' and wins. Washington also profits, but less because he has too bad land.

Qin might surprise me here and is my wildcard-wildcard to advance. We shall see.

Sullla wrote in the series introduction that this was impossible, and I beieve he's correct. I vaguely recall that free religion spreads have the same requirements as trade routes, meaning the mountain-blocked observer civ won't ever get a spread.

As for my own wildly inaccurate predictions:

Winner: Temujin could go on a rampage reminiscent of his real-world history. With the "bad guys" better positioned (closer together) and more likely (due to higher aggressiveness) to support each other, they may well take the "good guys" apart one by one in spite of being outnumbered in the game overall, and the Khan's central position gives him the best opportunity to benefit if it plays out that way.

Runner-Up: Zheng could wind up with a decent share of India and the lion's share of America in spite of (like Peter) periodically sending troops halfway across the continent to (in effect) help the Khan's empire grow stronger. This thanks in part to Russian and Mongolian troops getting sent all the way across China to (in effect) help the founder of the Qin dynasty expand his realm.

First to Die: Ashoka is no longer surrounded by friends he can use as hu... errr ... as AI shields against his warlike enemies. One might think the potential for shared religion might save him here, but not with these neighbors, I think. Machiavellian diplomacy, even if not illusory, tends to come around to bite its practitioners eventually.

Survivors: 3 civilizations may live to see the end, as Temujin won't manage to wipe out his last two rivals before he hits the threshold for...

Victory: Domination, circa turn 275.

Right, what I meant was once the AP religion is present in all the civs, Sullla could then open the WB and put it in his own city.
