Humankind/Old World game?

Team alignment should match turn pace, the small advantage of an extra turn is not worth the emotional PYFT malus
I'm happy to go last if that's what's required smile

We can just let the random map generator spit out our starting leader archetypes, right?

I am not sure I do understand you correctly, but I currently interpret you being for the team alignment option.
Bruindane seems to be in favor as well.
CMF is for turn pace, as he is already quite occupied, but in that case a possible slower turn pace might be easier to handle?

In that case teams would be:
Bruindane - Ginger
Kaiser - CMF

My test game (against AI) showed that the random Archetype option gives each player potentially a different archetype. My understanding is that we all want to start with the same Archetype (as there are some which are better very early than others)
I am not sure if this is different in a pure MP game, but we can just roll an archetype and select it for everybody to start with.

So we need a lurker to:
- roll starting player (random of us 4, the remaining order is then given)
- roll 1 Archetype from the following list

Hero
Commander
Tactician
Zealot
Schemer
Orator
Diplomat
Judge
Builder
Scholar

In the meantime we can try to schedule a slot to set up the game as a network game to then transfer it to a cloud game (probably my bad for being on Epic, you are all on Steam, right?).
We need all players to be online at the same time, and some minutes to do the picking (as we have to wait for last player to pick and so on)

I see the following time slots (all can probably pushed a bit around):
- UTC 6:00 (22:00 PST, 07:00 CET) not sure if this works for CMF
- UTC 15:00 (07:00 PST, 16:00 CET (I can make that this Thursday, Friday for roughly 30 minutes)), again not sure for CMF
- UTC 22:00 (14:00 PST, late lunch break?, 23:00 CET) this would fit CMFs window

I will see if I can get us a subforum

@all Tribal strenght and Difficulty were still a little undecided, Map tends to become coastal rain basin but you can still influence.
The current tribal strength setting (weak) will lead to an easier REX phase and few but some barb trouble, the higher this goes the more trouble there will be (Ginger prefers medium)
The current difficulty setting (the good) will let each of start with generous ressources and 10 base orders/turn and beakers/turn.

I would ask a lurker to roll two archetypes, one for the first player to move in each team, one for the second player to move in each team, adds some variety that way smile
I like tribes medium as a buff to the Orator/Diplomat leaders and Carthage, but am fine with weak too, they can be annoying for sure

I like that suggestion, please roll 2 from the archetype list.

We can select the first if Bruindane and CMF are against it, but I agree that it brings more variety

Hey, I'm easy. Do what works.

As for play windows for a synchronous start, um, might be hard for me - just let me know a few days in advance and I can arrange it.

Two Archetypes per team is a great idea. I'm fine with any settings, it's mostly new to me.

If it is more convenient, and it sounds like it is, we could choose our nations in-forum to skip the need for the initial network game. Choosing nations in-game after seeing the land feels like a neat thing, but with balanced starts and no starting techs I imagine its impact is lessened.

Random.org result 1: Bruindane

Quote:- roll 2 Archetypes from the following list

Tactician

Orator

Random.org results 3 & 6: Tactician & Orator

Thank you EL Grillo, that would mean:

Player Order:
Bruindane (Tactician) - Kaiser (Tactician) - Ginger (Orator) - CMF (Orator)
Picking order:
CMF - Ginger - Kaiser - Bruindane

I like to pick with at least some map knowledge, as families and civs can be quite impactful, but maybe we can host the game and just wait on turn 1 until everybody had time to login at a convenient time.
Just end your turn when you have picked, hopefully the game wont mind multiple hours passing :D

I created a game, so we can try
name: RB Old World PBC1
PW: ElGrillo

Please check if you can join it, you need to click the player with your name.
If this works, then each player in order should pick his CIV, play his first turn, end turn and post here so the next player can do so at his next opportunity. Once we are through the first turn.

Bruindane, you need to change the game to a Play by Cloud game before ending your turn (press "ESC" and select the "Play by Cloud" option, 3rd from top in the pop up menu)

I 'found' a few minutes and logged in successfully. Acknowledge that I can't end the turn before converting the game to "Play by Cloud".

great, I already was informed that you logged in as well, now CMF needs to pick and it will be Gingers turn

Make sure to set your Email Address in "ESC" > "Options"
