Congrats on your degree - and good luck with the new city and job! Sounds like an exciting time in real life; here's hoping the game and reporting are a fun (and manageable) spice to that!

Um, don't read the last report. I actually meant that we're developing very nicely into a competitive beast, and coming second. cool

Also, thanks Ref. smile

I somehow like that shade. Very pleasing. Grasslands abound!

Paul Curtis
Our fourth city was also settled southwards, to connect an easy wet rice, and to grow two riverside cottages.

It has just whipped it's granary, which means it will now contribute whipped workers and continue to grow those cottages.

Paul Curtis is a young small-ish forward. Whereas Eddie Ford tends to play a 7-8/10 game every week, Paul Curtis will struggle for a month, before suddenly playing a 10/10 game that wows everyone. He and Nick Larkey (who our capital is named after) have developed a strong partnership approach, whereby in the last few weeks of the season, Curtis became adept at chaining forward entries towards Larkey. This proved effective, and I suspect it will continue to be a part of North Melbourne's strategy going forward.

Paul Curtis was also nominated for Goal of the Year via this pretty remarkable play.

Charlie Comben
Well, having embarrassingly missed a turn, it's back to our regularly scheduled programming. duh   We founded Comben on the same turn as Curtis. It will work the floodplains cottages and the food from the bananas to grow on +5 food total, and also provides Gold to the Empire.

Charlie Comben

It's hard to tell from his head, but Charlie Comben is an athletic MONSTER, a 'key forward' (tall forward who is meant to mark the ball in a pack) who is also highly capable of running and tackling. Unfortunately, he's only played ~10 games in 3 years, due to consistently getting himself injured. Much like our city, if he is allowed time to develop, it is almost certain that he will become a very strong player. But, if he does not get that time, Charlie may find himself out of luck pretty soon, and this coming year will be pretty important for him. Ohdear

George Wardlaw
Our sixth city was settled up north to claim two first-ring food resources, plus a gold in the second ring.

It has just 2-whipped a granary (this picture is a little old), and will finish its monument in a couple of turns. This city will never be particularly exciting, and will basically just work its food, gold, and the coast, whipping every 10 turns for the indefinite future (CtH really should nerf whipping... perhaps 24h instead of 30h?). It gets off to an absolutely ripping start though, much like our friend below.

George Wardlaw was drafted with Pick 4 in the 2022 National Draft, despite recurring hamstring issues during his draft year (including being expected to miss most of this year as well). That we prioritised a player injured for their first year says a lot about his ability. Wardlaw is an extraordinarily powerful midfielder, who can run down opponents and crumple them. He is so damn good that he inspires the rest of his (much older, more experienced) teammates observably, with North Melbourne immediately transitioning from pissweak to competitive in the week that he began playing again. That is partly an endictment on the rest of our list that an 18-year-old is required to inspire them to play well, but it is also a testament to Wardlaw's presence on the field. Unfortunately, he struggled with hamstring issues again in the latter half of this year, which is becoming a massive concern. Indeed, he seems to have been put on a specialised training plan for about 12 months purely to get his hamstrings in condition. If Wardlaw can stay on the park, it is entirely likely that he will become one of the AFL's best players (parroting journalists here, not just my own nuffie opinions wink ).

I highly recommend watching this two-minute highlight reel of his first three games, as they were pretty remarkable. I think even without playing the game, you get a sense for Wardlaw's presence and power, which again are ridiculous when you remember he is 18 years old. My partner's claim to fame is also talking to George Wardlaw (and somehow managing to call him 'Wardy' twice in two sentences).

Yeah look Pindicator, I get that I'm weak* and you're winning, but like, I'm not that weak... rolleye

Rolldice

*Actually, across the game (demos and scoreboard), I'm not that weak. I'm above average, at least. But somehow in this hellscape of a map, my neighbours are two of the top three players in the game, making me near-certain food during the midgame - this is giving me PB59 vibes...
