I would guess so, I don't know why, but for some reason I had assumed it was no tech trading in this game, glad I realized this now. That would have been quite the surprise eek!

It's a clash between assumptions on two of the "start point normalizer" functions: the one that removes all Peaks near the start and the one that adds in forests. The latter assumes the former is always active and does not check if a plot is Peak before adding a Forest to it.

Archipelago has custom Peak generation with normalization turned off for Peaks. No Peaks can appear along the shorelines, only inland, so there do not tend to be any peaks at all on Tiny Islands versions, but can be quite a few on Snaky Continents including some at start points.

Well I'm glad to know that one of these events really hit the spot. smile

The irony is that Horse Feathers in Civ3 was so badly map-jacked that it sort of became the evidence I held up to Soren (later) as to just how bad off the map making was in Civ3 in terms of problems with start point placement, resources, and thus game balance. Then I went on to address these myself for Civ4.
