[SPOILERS] The Reverend Varn of the Malakim

Damn it.

Order was founded in a distant land. I'm not even sure who would want it.

But more immediately, this happened....

If you can't tell.... that's 3 mistforms from the 'see something in the shadows' or whatever event that can happen on smoke tiles.

I'm guessing the lurkers were hoping to see this event when a bunch of us chose fire I on our adepts. Although I thought this event meant just ONE mistform. It shouldn't be a huge deal this late in the game but for me it is. At least I can see them, they'll probably empty out that city.... maybe they'll split up and I can pick them off.

Yes our turns are going by that quickly each evening.

Mistform crisis averted at the cost of an elephant (which will be missed).

Last turn I declared nationality on my capture elephant and moved it toward the mistforms and they took the bait.... a nearby hunter cleaned up the last injured one.

Now my highest strength unit is 5 though.... and Thoth has some seriously scary dragon slayers clearing dungeons on my borders. Go attack Bob or something!

Ugh. Obviously Thoth didn't go away and attack Bob alright

I'm down to just three cities in the northwest.

From a couple turns ago... you can see what used to be my capital.

My units are so outclassed by his it isn't even funny. I whipped one diseased corpse but mostly what I can produce is str5 units, which do next to nothing against his. I'm not even sure what tactics I could have tried to stop him.... my last 'stack' ring of fired his x5 and still had less than 1% odds, and was destroyed by his weakened units the next turn.

I've gone so far as to run some test games as Cassiel w/ an adept and I can't get to where Thoth is in 145 turns, so hats off to his play bow.

So, I can't produce units that will even scratch his... I guess the plan is whip a settler and run away see if I can stay alive a couple extra turns. Infernal pact is probably unresearchable in the time I've got left, but I guess there's no harm in trying!

I hope Bob has blasting furnaces rolling so I can watch a heated showdown.

Note that my "weakened" units got healed +20% by the much maligined Grigori Medic that caught up to my opportunistic stack. smile

And Valen got healed +20% after killing your Lightbringer (thanks to Aeron's Chosen).

And yeah, you were pretty much fucked by what rolled over your borders. T1/2 units just can't hold up to well promoted T3 units. Your tactics were about as good as they could have been under the circumstances but the forces you faced were strong enough that it didn't matter.

A try at the Altar is a very decent play as the Malakim, but the bottleneck isn't great people. It's tech. If you're going Philo as your trait swap you really, really, really want to pick up Writing for some cheap Philo Libraries.
