Thanks sir. In that case I change my vote to no spies.

Hi guys,
I hope it's not too late and I can still join your team. I have been silently lurking this forum for some time and this looks like the perfect opportunity to join in on something, even with little ability and uncertain commitment.

So forgetting all this settings stuff, we are missing the really important question - naming schemes!
Cities - Pirate towns/landmarks?
Naval Units - Pirate Ships?
Military Land Units - Pirates?
Workers - Slaves? Or incase that is a bit touchy/bad taste, wenches?
Do we have enough names in each of those categories?

Having played monkey islands 1-4 in my previous life I think pirate themed names should be a breeze.

We can probably expand naming themes to all pirate history and literature/movies. There should be more than enough subject matter to last throughout the entire game.

Davy, if you want to lead discussion while I'm at work go right ahead, otherwise I can pick it up again in 10 hours. There are a couple of items that the team was pretty split on -- like WEs, spies, and Corporations.
We also need to get votes going T-Hawk's question of forum access:
T-hawk Wrote:It can be done separately per team. These would be the choices, which each team can make at their discretion:
- Fully private, only approved members let in. (This would be set up like the CFC demogame, with one or more captains in charge of approving access.)
- Open to all logged in users, except for members of other teams. Not visible without a login.
- Open to all, even without any login. (Still not visible for logged in members of other teams, but they could log out to read it. Prevents accidental cheating but only accidental.)
I prefer the last. People at RB aren't going to intentionally cheat, and I know if someone from another team did they would get ostracized pretty quick.

Only problem with the last is that you will see the thread titles for other teams come up. This would mean we have to keep coming up with meaningless thread titles instead of having the title relate to the thread's purpose.
Whether that's a big deal or not I still haven't decided yet.

Here's what I'm planning to post in the settings discussion thread. I'll hold off on posting it for few hours in case anyone sees a issue with it or has a last minute opinion to add.
Civilizations Per Team: One
Starting Era: Ancient
Pitboss Style: Concurrent - with the ammendum that if teams feel like we can get turns played fast enough to manage sequential, that may be preferable to forestall any double-move disputes.
Diplomacy: Full Private
Always War: No
Barbarians: On - though there is a large portion on the team that favors off.
Spies: Evenly Split between on with no civic/religion switching, and off completely.
Corporations: Off - though there is a large portion of the team that favors on.
Blockades: No
War Elephants: Khmer Only
Tech Trading: No
Nukes: No
Map Trading: Always
Banned Wonders: Majority favors mapmaker's choice, though we suggest banning the Statue of Zeus, and GLH if water heavy map. The power of the Pyramids should also be taken into account when making the map.
Pick Method: Our team is evenly split between an unrestricted snake pick and having some sort of ban. The bans suggested are as follows:
- Each team bans a trait/civ, then snake pick.
- Intial snake pick to arrive at leaders/civs to ban, then normal snake pick.
- Ban usual suspects (Inca, India, Byzantium, Egypt, Ottomans, Pacal, Willem, HC, Mansa Musa, Darius I, Elizabeth, Sury, Bismarck, Izzy), then snake pick.
Map Restrictions: No real preference, have faith in Commodore that he can come up with something good.
AP Religious Victory: Banned - though building the AP is permitted.
