In a vacuum I have no problem with it. If I were playing in the game, I would hope that the opponents who signed up to play against me would actually be trying to win, or to do well according to the measuring sticks that the game provides.
But anyway, I wasn't criticizing their choice, just describing the results of their choice in the context of the game. Isn't that what lurker threads are for - discussing things that the actual players of the game don't care about?

Its more like buying a lottery ticket for someone else, because the land entitlement of the opponent you were so fortunate to eliminate will fall to their more developed neighbor that went Worker first.

Darrel you missed my point. See 7s dissertation on lottery tickets he's posted in several threads. The benefit a person gets from lottery tickets is not the jackpot you might win (the chances being so minuscule that's it shouldn't even be a factor), but the thrill (some) people get from the hope of winning. In this case being the guy that pulled off a warrior rush in this crowd (and maybe changing the meta a bit) transcends whatever -ev it causes in this one game. I don't know about Thoth, but I'm pretty sure that's Lewwyns motivation.

Ah, sorry Brick I did misunderstand you...thanks for the detailed explanation .
I honestly (naively?) believed they thought Warrior rush was the optimum strategy. If they were thrill seeking then I would go so far as to criticize. When you join others in a game of civ (especially one with a roster as illustrious as this), there is an implied compact that you play the game to win, not to wreck someone else's game. If you want a thrill go...buy a lottery ticket .
Anyway, just my $0.02, all lurkers including me are a-holes, players don't get offended when you read this, etc., etc.

This gif is funny, even though I don't know what it's all about.

I think I quoted it in the PB11 lurker thread quite a lot of time after it was made because I found it interesting.

Thanks Ichabod, that was enough information for me to find it:

The classic example is buying lottery tickets. Many smart people are quick to criticize people who do that, because looking at the expected monetary value, it's a terrible deal. But it could actually be a very good deal if it makes the buyer happy and thereby improves their quality of life. People regularly pay much more than a dollar for happiness.
For me, buying a lottery ticket would make me sad, because I would be dwelling the awful EV for me, and the perceived uselessness of the whole thing overall. So it's illogical for me to do. For someone else, browsing RB would be illogical and the lottery tickets wouldn't be. It would be a mistake for me to assume that other people have the same values and reactions to stimuli as me, and are therefore being illogical if they do things that I wouldn't.
It's a very reasonable outlook and therefore completely unsuitable for me .
