Oh the new overflow mechanics are awful. They've gone from making people micro to feel like they're not missing out on big carry over to making people micro to not get screwed

Alhambram declared war on Scooter and apparently already captured a city (China only has 1 showing on the trade screen now). China will not remain long in this world. Alhambram is well over 300 power and presumably spiking massively every 5 turns as Amani takes effect.

For what it is worth, you can trade only full health cities.

Ah, that makes more sense. Hungary’s empire score didn’t seem to increase yet.

T60: 4 turns to war! I never did catch up on the civ comparisons. At this point I've stopped tracking. Alhambram is around 29Icon_Culture/26Icon_Science while I am ... well, you can see in the screenshot

I'm close enough that if I can take out Japan efficiently and leverage 2 religions I believe I have a shot at keeping up. The prospects of Hungarian recruits in my backlines is scary though. Alhambram's civics rate is rapid enough that he can unlock envoys in relatively short order, probably quick enough to continue bouncing Amani around at the minimum 5-turn interval when combined with a quest here or there. I suspect that by the time I conquer Japan, Hungary will control at least one, likely 2 if not more of the city state surrounding me/Japan. Hungary is also running the GG policy card. To me that signifies intend to go for the throat and immediately attack upon wiping out China. The GG is certainly not required to take care of China.

TheArchduke is building up a large army at the border and is also building walls. I’m not concerned with walls. My first priority is to take out the Japanese army, then turn to the cities. I’ll have first strike anyway unless TAD retreats before DOF expires.

One annoying thing is that the trader did not repair the pillaged roads rant apparently only traders can build roads, but builders are required to repair them? That will slow down reinforcements slightly. But ...

I took Monumentality dedication instead of Evangelists. The builder purchases will help keep my production up. After clearcutting everything I’ll need to cover the hills with mines. I’m heading to Apprenticeship now (10 turns)

This wasn't what I expected ....

Plenty of troops on my part but no room to maneuver smoke there's no way I'm breaking through.

EDIT: also watch that volcano explode with a megacolossal eruption and wipe out my army lol

Warring with the AI builds bad habits frown I was not expecting the passes to be blocked off. I was expecting to swam my way around the front city, meet the Japanese army in the field with my current forces, and siege down Space Lion’s walls with follow-up swordsmen.

This turn I ordered a retreat. And this is why I like Civ 6 combat compared to Civ 4. Terrain matters. Troop deployment matters. It’s not just about who has the biggest stack or strongest units, you have to deploy them effectively. And TheArchduke did.

I completed the Tier-1 government building this turn. I’m drawing a blank currently on the name but it is the one that boosts settler production and gives free builders upon founding. Defensive tactics was nicely timed for a civics swap this turn. I slotted Colonization and immediately Magnus-chopped a settler to near completion, and I have another chop available next turn for another settler.

Governor title from the government building was used to appoint Amani to Valletta, partly for the suzerain bonus and partly as a defensive measure to hopefully prevent Hungary from suzeraining a military CS in my backlines and upgrading everything on the cheap and causing havoc.

Any updates? Any plans to take out your city state neighbors or try to rapidly expand to catch up to Alhambram?
