Future of RtR

(April 24th, 2020, 12:15)GeneralKilCavalry Wrote: Everything really depends on how far you want to go. I think its essential to really clearly delineate between KrillMod and a future CharriuMod in terms of philosophy, and make sure that a CharriuMod doesnt begin to spiral with more changes into an alternative KrillMod.

I have no intention of starting more changes and becoming another RtR. Like I said one of the most important goals is to stay close to BtS. I even want to go so far as to make this a theme in the name of the mod with names like "Closer to Home" or "Improved base game". And yes I know naming is hard. Another reason is that I don't want to investigate as much time into the mod as Krill did over the years.

civic/tile improvement changes are on the border of too far for a "improved base game" mod.

Improving serfdom and the balance of the labor civics makes sense, but a bright-line has to be drawn. Krill's emancipation changes and other changes take things way too far off.

A question for the RtR players around here: How does war weariness in RtR feel? Do you have the feeling it accumulates in strange ways? Or reduces faster in any way?

I tend to think it's fine, once you get to the point where it can be a problem there are tools to deal with it.

You are probably wondering why I asked this omnious question. While working on CloseToHome I discovered some undocumented changes in RtR:
  • WW_DECAY_PEACE_PERCENT is set to 90 instead of 99: This drastically increases the war weariness reduction at peace time.
  • FORCED_WAR_WAR_WEARINESS_MODIFIER is set to 100: This guarantees no war weariness if you play 'Always war' or 'Permanent war' (might be interesting for PB50 players)
  • The construction time for oil wells is reduced from 10 turns to 3
I'll probably make another RtR version because of some minor bugfixes and will include those with the changelog.
