I do think it worked well in this case, but only because its such a large game. Also, the most likely lurkers to take over on short notice were super spoiled.

I think one of the big advantages of dedlurkers, other than to keep you from slowly going insane inside your own thread, is to play turns you can't make

I'm confused. A 12 hr extension was asked for (fine) but 13 hrs were set (ok) and then 5 hrs on top (huh?) And now the two players who asked for the extension have played and we have 18 real hours left on the timer. At this pace we can just do as Civforum and set a 48 hrs timer.
