I don't have a problem with occasional extensions for thinking and planning provided they do not become systematic. I am as anxious to get to play my next turn as anyone else but I realize that objectively we are not in any hurry to finish the game by some deadline. It is a hobby, not a job, and we are doing it for the process, not for end result. The process must be fun for everyone and I understand how being rushed to play the turn can be unfun. Also, keep in mind that the difference between "I want to plan my turn more carefully" and "real life issues prevent me for playing the turn in time" is not clear cut.
Of course, this all relies on the idea that such extensions are rare but I can't say that we have some sort of proliferation of these sort of issues. Given the number of players the turn pace has been decent so far, I think.
