It's my first week at teaching full time and it's so hectic I completely forgot to play my turn last night before J went to bed. If I've been skipped that's ok, I deserve it. If not, I'll play when I get home tonight in about 4 hours. Sorry again either way! Um. You got the extension, was it an issue?

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.
I'd say, we should give each and everyone a bit more slack. I'm sure everyone is trying to get their turns in whenever they can.
As we're all different in playing civ, some are more perfectionists, some are more like "play and see" types, we have all a different playing background. We all have a different real life, for example, I swap the time zone I'm in very regularely. And I don't mean an hour or two change, but 7-13hrs. So I rarely get my turns in "at a regular time", but I'm happy to announce in advance when I'll be having a busy schedule ahead. And I was VERY thankful when I got a reload I haven't even asked for a few turns ago. Sometimes, we can't disclose what happens in real life 100%, and this is perfectly fine for me. Some players will have more stable, orderly lifes and get their turns in every day, same hours, others might have way more random times to play. Or being on an 18hr nonstop flight, or other "fun" stuff. Personally, I'm happy to play with 24hrs turns but be somewhat flexible on turn extensions. Just for your comparison, RB74 was started on early September, we're now on T130. PB93 from German forum with 48hrs timer was started on Mid-May, now on T171 RB74 is running for approx 5 months, PB93 for (almost) 9 months, almost double the time. Even if we assume we'd take 36hrs NOW for EACH turn for the next 40T, it would only take 2 months to catch up with the current Turn of PB93, making it 7 months rather than 9 months to reach the same turn.
I second GT's sentiment. I see that lately turn pace has become somewhat of an obsession at RB and I am not sure I approve of this shift in culture, even though I typically do not have problems with playing turns in time. I feel it puts unneeded pressure on people who try to balance the hobby with intense, involved lives and alienates an important part of the player base.
Somewhat contradictory to this, I believe that in the current situation, we waited for Amica long enough and my suggestion is that Scooter logs in at his earliest opportunity and plays the turn for Amica. Amica said he is fine with being skipped but I believe scooter playing is a superior alternative to this.
I agree with Gav here, but I would ask players not to let bad turn pace become a habit. And if life gets in a way ( which is why I don't actively play anymore, don't sim or log in or stuff like that. Damn I miss those times ) I would see veteran subbing for a period to be an optimal solution.
In this particular case I think Amica has expressed that he can be skipped or Scooter can sub for him if he can. So that sounds good for me.
Completed: pb38, pb40, pb41, pb42, pb46 and pb49
Playing: pbem78
I would prefer scooter subbing over skipping Amica outright. Honestly, getting to double move in a way would break the game experience for me

I could play his turn tonight - in around 8-10 hours from now. Given timezones, I assume that would mean I could complete it in time for pindicator to play before his evening is over. If that's preferable for everyone, I'll do that.
Obviously if Amica shows up before then, there's no need. (February 2nd, 2024, 11:53)Hitru Wrote: I agree with Gav here, but I would ask players not to let bad turn pace become a habit. Thank you for signing up to German PB 100, the ultimate game.. just keep some patience till 2028 (February 2nd, 2024, 12:41)scooter Wrote: I could play his turn tonight - in around 8-10 hours from now. I think this works perfectly: we will give Amica a bit more time but also ensure that we will have a new turn in the evening. |
