correction: we have 4 unworked riverside cottages, between gilgamesh and theiliad. oh well, we should have peace in ten turns, and in 20 turns or so we'll have gold and copper hooked up, so we'll be working them before too long. none too soon: the #1 city is size 8!

Disagree. We settle where tokyo was and we can farm the rice and work the rice while we wait for IW to finish teching. Then we grow fast and can whip a spear in the city. Building backline spears will not help as much because they might not reach the city in time.

if we have 10 turns of enforced peace what does it matter?

Depends on when enforced peace starts and when IW is due to come in.

Have you offered peace again? Is it too early? If you don't have enforced peace I'd settle on the iron...

no, not yet. would be very dangerous to have peace when there is any possibility he could settle the iron. I think we shouldnt offer it until we are 1 turn away from settling.
if we settle on the iron, we have to get a 2nd settler out very quickly to claim the gold, and another one very quickly to claim the silver. I guess if it looks like thats the only way we can hold iron city then we do it, but I really hope thats not the case.
and if he DOES accept peace, then we definitely don't settle on iron.

Played I moved the worker onto the hill to road like you suggested bigger and moved a second chariot onto the hill. I am slightly afraid that he'll road the tile south of his one roaded tile and then stream chariots at us from 3 tiles away. I'm okay with it right now because his chariots need to rest first but not for long. We can't move and chariots outside our borders with out taking on an extra 1 gold maintenance. So I'll move all the chariots onto that hill when I think Azza has had enough time to heal.
We may want to settle on the iron if Azza won't accept a white peace in two turns. We can settle on it bring a warrior and use gold to upgrade him directly to a spear if we have to.

I logged on to check on our empire right as spacetyrant was finishing his turn. He was nice enough to ask me in chat if I was ready for the turn to roll, which I was of course since Lewwyn already did everything.
so we got a free religion spread in our capital! that will be very nice when we are able to convert which, I guess, will be the first turn that we have a spear built that can make it to our new city. haha.
Also note the barb warrior, which seems to be heading towards azza's capital. we can let him, or kill it for experience?
Odysseus ran into another native. he's at 0.5/1, if he heals in place he'll be 0.6/1. can anyone figure out his odds of survival if we held? fortify bonus will be 10%, wood, plus 50% bonus for woodsman 2... plus another bonus for the forest?? my gut tells me we need to run back to the forested hill.
