The Quarterdeck - Turn Discussion Thread

Augh, I screwed up the micro by sending a Worker to chop out a Settler, but the chop won't actually speed up the Settler. Whoops.

In any event, the Settler completes T77, and the next city is settled T78. I'm sending A to road there.

I'm back for now, thanks for taking over solo for the week. Next Monday and Tuesday I might have difficulty if the turn rolls wrong, but I'd probably be able to catch the tail end on either side.

Go ahead and play this turn if you have the time today since you know where you're headed with the workers. I can sit down in about 12 hours and work out a general plan for the next 10-20 turns, and that's still within our window if you're busy.

Missed Hinduism by the turn order (M3 @ Talking Parrot = culture trouble on our border) cry Yuush

where are we building our next city?

Barbados: how to get a settler out
Maximizing hammers -- (keep working mine), all values EOT
72: building settler foodhammers +7-hammers +5-food = 12 (12/100)
73: settler (24/100)
74: settler (36/100)
75: settler (48/100)
76: double-whip (~115/100)
Barbados needs 2 turns to grow to size 3 plus 2 turns to grow to size 4
Maximizing food ... (switch to grassland farm)

food: +7 (17/28); hammers +4 (20/35 into axe)
72: food (24/28); hammers (24/30)
73: food (31/28 -> 3+14=17 overflow); hammers (28/30) grow to size 5 *whip unhappy wears off in time for this citizen to work*
74: food (24/30) new citizen works a grassland forest to keep +7 surplus; hammers +5 with forest (33/35)
75: food (30/30 -> 15 overflow) work the grassland mine; hammers +7 with mine (40/35 -> 4 overflow) grow to size 6
76: building settler foodhammers +12-base/overflow +6-food = (18/100)
77: tripple-whip settler (~125/100)
Barbados is at size 3 and needs 2 turns to reach size 4
So what is best? I think just go for the 2-pop whip while working the mine, so I queued up settler.

Port Royal: do we really need another axe out of here? I think a work boat would be better. We can use it to explore a bit, and eventually use it on one of our later cities.

Havana:
Oops, I forgot that chops were only 20 hammers without mathamatics bang which is why it couldn't be whipped like I had suggested last week. Sign said "Complete T75" but I went ahead and whipped it. We loose 10 food by not being able to work the deer for two turns but we gain it all back as stored in the terrace so it's net 0, but we get the extra culture earlier.

Before I got here my internet cut out so I lost connection to the game, and it seems like you logged in immediately.

Oops. Losing Hinduism stinks... I sunk the hammers into the Axe.

I agree with just two-pop whipping the Settler. For Workers, they both completed a road on the Deer this turn, since chopping won't speed up the Settler. We only need one Worker to road to the next city. I was thinking we could send our second Worker to improve Port Royal, either by chopping and farming a grassland riverside tile, or building a cottage on the Spices so that the cottage can be passed between Barbados and Port Royal.

Alright, I'll look more into the workers another day. I was worried that my internet cutting out had somehow disoriented the game because i couldn't log back in once I reset it. I was relieved when civstats showed you logging in as soon as I "logged out".

Gillette's had the turn for a few hours and I was hoping it would roll this evening, but I'm off to bed. I can't play in the morning if it rolls overnight but I can catch it late if you can't take it earlier.

I moved units but did not end turn. Do we really want to build the Q at Havana? I put the workers on a cottage that can be shared by Barbados and Havana since we do not need the road to the new city yet and Havana will be growing like a weed in the coming turns. I think we have time to put another cottage in SE of their current position before roading for the settler. Here are my proposed worker actions:

T73 (current): Started cottage (2/4)
T74: Finish cottage
T75: Move both SE and cottage (2/4)
T76: Whip settler this turn, but road won't speed settling so finish cottage
T77: move worker A to either chop or improve a for city new city (city will steal deer, probably indefinitely). Worker B should move 2SW and put a turn into a road/cottage because Havana's borders will be expanding for next turn. Havana will start working the two cottages because of growth and stolen deer.
T78: Move B onto cows and start pasture, while worker A continues whatever we need it to do at new city.

Sorry, ended turn bang

I don't really see much else to build in Havana. We need to dump hammers into something, and Barracks feels like a bad idea. Also, I just realized that we should be pumping Workers out of Port Royal, since we don't have any tiles to grow onto but a lot of hammers.

I was going to recommend building a Cottage at Port Royal...but we don't have the food to work it. I'm half worried about building so many blank cottages, but I guess that's the best use of our Worker labor. Agreed, chop for new city.

Also, I was wondering if Monotheism->Monarchy would be better than Priesthood->Monarchy. Only issue is that would take 6+ more turns of research than Priesthood. Then again, Monarchy takes 18 turns of research at max science, so (hopefully) getting the religion now would be a boon.

The two cottages will be worked within a turn or two of getting built. Havana will grow onto one, and the other will come when Havana switches to it from the deer for the new city.

I didn't think of Monotheism, but yeah since we're spiritual lets grab a religion and make use of Org Rel sooner rather than later.

Okay, Monotheism. We're fine with spending the beakers hitting Masonry?
