Dreylin Blues 2000 is on (another) mission from Cod

An interesting turn, some may say game-changing.

In the North I put my notes to good use:

I had been thinking about heading straight West across the Wines, but rethought before finishing yesterday.

I can see that Ginger has Pottery, presumably for his cheap EXP Granaries.

Bigger news in the South though:

Well now. I think this means that Settler #1 is coming South for these Horses. The northern spot is phenomenal long-term, but suffers from lack of production and a huge swathe of unusable tiles before IW. Down here there may even be flexibility to settle and share the Cows, but regardless there is significantly more production potential.

Next turn the Scout will reveal if /this/ is where I will find my Fish (& if Pindicator has trolled me by placing it where it's only reachable by settling on the Horse)? Current placement options are on the sign to share the Cows, on the Scout to get both resources 1st-ring, and 1S of Wheat to get max land tiles and preserve the extra forest for chopping. Plenty of time for the scout to have defogged the rest of the area before committing.

I think this also changes my Worker plans; instead of heading back to Farm the banana he'll start building the road connection to be ready when the city plants.

Warrior finishes EOT and will still head to look NE of Cod, and 8t Settler queued behind. Myst finished and I started Mining.

Sooo close to giving me PTSD from the last game... wink

Ginger's EP defaulted to me so he hasn't met anyone else yet. Elwood is currently circling West to clear the next ring of fog. I guess I double-moved him out of Ginger's sight; seems a bit impolite, but he may hang around that area in the medium-term and will likely be spotted soon enough. I do need to defog the coast between us to try to understand Ginger's settling priorities.

Maybe I need a 3rd Scout...?

Not immediately though as I may go straight onto a second Worker after the Settler completes. In my head, the current Worker finishes the 3 road sections between Cod and Haddock (probably) and then roads the horse in the time it takes the Settler to move into position. Pasture starts immediately and connects ASAP. Haddock* builds a Monument first to bring the Wheat (&Fish!) in range.

Maybe Haddock builds a Chariot after the second Worker and I use that to Scout?

Pictures next turn after I finish defogging the East.

Followed Ginger's scout for a couple of turns - coincidence, not stalking! - but we parted ways this turn. They have grown their Cap to size 4, so I should be faster to second city.

Still no religion notifications yet.

So here's the East defogged:

So that's where the Gems went. No seafood though, so I don't see any reason not to settle on the Rice; converting it into a useful tile takes a lot of investment in Worker turns and lost options to spread irrigation. That site would get 8 coastal and 5 ocean tiles for Moai; Jake's Horses to the South would get 8 Coastal and 3 Ocean.

I'll probably try to take some overview shots today and start thinking further afield about dotmapping, though I still need to find my other neighbours, and even for Ginger I don't have enough info yet to try to predict his settling priorities.

Here's an overview of most of what I can see:

I put a few speculative dots on for the North & West, but right now I have no idea how to settle the food desert to the SW.

I've been planning on a second Worker from COD immediately after the Settler, but am also thinking I need a 3rd Scout sooner rather than later. Actually maybe I'll push that out of Haddock after the Monument since I need it to head South.

I can see several reasons not to settle on the rice
- share the wheat to grow faster
- have the gems first ring
- share more river cottage with the cap
it will be less sea tiles for Moai, but you will lose mainly ocean tiles (and could grow faster to whip infra and work the all relevant sea)

(obviously you need to unfog around the rice to check for seafood, don't blame me if you orphan one by settling before checking smile)

Thanks for prodding I have been thinking around this spot, but haven't detailed all my thoughts here and am happy to share.

Presumably we're looking at and alternative 1NW of Rice to get the Gems first-ring. Assuming no seafood, that trades 5 Ocean tiles for +3 shared tiles and 2 new land tiles. Both spots have 8 Coast tiles so no trade-off there, but so does the Southern Horse city along with 3 Ocean (2 bare & 1 Fish), so maybe I'd also move the Moai down there?

Anyway, on the flip side, settling on the Rice gives a 3f city center tile from the get-go. Settling the other spot, the Rice is essentially a dead tile until IW, then requires ~9 worker turns to yield a 4f tile. Could eventually get to 5f by building a chain farm NE of the Corn, but would tie that tile down.

Dotmap to the North will have some influence, as will when to settle; making a commitment and settling either spot early will give a solid support city, but it's also backlines so there's no urgency. Not locking anything in, we'll see how things shape up.

Oh, and I was already thinking I would defog the Rice with the Warrior; there's nothing else pressing on his agenda right now...
