[Spoilers] Ibuprofen and Eyeglasses: Thoth plays a Middle Aged game

No extra units in Golem so I sent in my Amphibious swordsman:

Swordsman vs Archer:  94%  WIN with 0.5ish health remaining.

City kept it's granary but not the Trading Post.

Yuris is up to 2 archers in his capital.

Scooter sacrificed and axe and then cleaned up with a spear to kill my sentry explorer in his lands but I did finally get vision on the start of the war:  Scooter flipped the barb city and Commodore razed it.

Commodore's power remains anemic so I sent Fish-Fish to Pindicator to indicate non-hostile intent and followed up with Fish + him going to war with Commodore for Fish from me to indicate that if he wants to go after Commodore he doesn't have to worry about this flank.

Pindicator echoed back Fish for Fish so that flank is secure for the moment.

I'm enjoying the way that you are introducing the brutal, hopeless nature of Erebus to these soft Earth-dwellers.

Actually, that might have some historical validity given what we know of pre-Christian Scandinavian world view and the way that the nations they attacked reacted read.

Turn opened with a peace offer from Scooter. Thought about it for a bit and decided to accept as it looked from the diplo pane that Commodore had already peaced out.

Yuris is back in slavery (one turn earlier than I though he could but there we go....) and whipped out maces. So I repositioned forces and captured his chopping worker on the island (1t too late, it completed it's chop. I forgot to account for him being in Serfdom). I expect Yuris' galley to put in an appearance near his capital any turn now as it was last seen heading through the central passage a few turns ago. I'm assuming he's got a unit on board. If it's an Axe he's got a shot at retaking the island but he can't hold it.

I'm aiming to play defense on land for the moment while pinning Yuris' troops in his capital with galley borne swordsmen. In the meantime, I want a land road route so capturing the barb city is the next order of business. I expect that to cost 2-4 swordsmen or 1 cat + 2-3 swordsmen. Then bring up cats, longbows ect and finish off Yuris.

Commodore's power has spiked quite nicely and he took a size 6 city (presumably a former barb city captured by Pin a couple of turns ago) from Pindicator.

I do like seeing the #2 and #3 militaries squaring off against each other.  But we'll see if this is a boarder skirmish or something longer.

On the home front, Yuri has 2 maces and a  pair of archers in his capital.  I've got 3 swords on boats within range so if he moves the maces out I'll take a shot at the two archers.

In the meantime 4 land-based swords are in position to take barb city #1 next turn with all 3 marine swords being in range.

Cities:

Halberd

Swapped to a settler after eot ready for a 4 pop whip.

Bec de Corbin

I need a couple more units for the front before taking a few turns for the HE.  Two second ring chops will knock the HE down to a 4/5 turn build and then it's 1t cats/horchers/longbows/ect

Glaive

Heavily whipped and about to be whipped again for two pop.  Cat --> Axe--> more military (Horchers once Horses are online)

Fauchard

I'll whip the archer with 1t to grow, whip the walls 2t later, and the overflow should finish a cheap Charismatic monument.

Voulge

Dry whipped the monument as the city was going to lose a pop point anyway.   There's a bug with the cultural borders from Yuris capital and there are two more coast tiles than there should be.  Such is life.

So far it's been very much a game of viking.  wink

Might not be a winning strategy but it's certainly fun to try a momentum play instead of builder for a change.

Medieval start + Vikings gives the ability to project power quite well without having to build up an economy from scratch and then teching up.  But with Maces and soon Xbows on the board for Yuris I'll be slowing down for awhile to mass up cats/stack defenders/horchers and then move in for the kill.

I'm hoping for a long drawn out war between Commodore and Pindicator but they're both experienced players and may well peace out early with only a city or two changing hands.

Yuris is up to 3 maces in his capital and is banking gold either for tech or for x-bow upgrades.  My 1st three Barrage 1 (5/2) exp cats are on the board and I'm going to reinforce Fauchard with a pair of Longbows next turn bringing the garrison up to 3 longbows (0, 1, and 5 exp) and a Formation spear.

So I went ahead as planned:

Initial Swordsman took the defender to 0.6 health, second took the other defender down low enough for a 70% shot with my 3rd swordsman who also died.

Captured at the cost of 3 swordsmen.

The scout kill was via a Woodsman 2 swordsman I have patrolling Scooter's border.

Being home sick sucks but it is good for turnpace.

Turn #3 of the day saw Yuris completing a trireme in his capital so I've repositioned my galleys to be out of reach of his trireme while still threatening his capital. He's got a mace covering a worker roading towards Fauchard who just completed walls and is now garrisoned by a G2 Longbow, regular Longbow, and a C2 Formation Spear all on a hill. Cats and swords are available within range to attack out if waranted or to move on Yuris capital.
