I had very much fun with Epic nine - until I gave up around 1300 AD due to technical difficulties. Frequent game crashes that require me to reboot my machine takes the fun out for me. The problem is related to my GeForce 6800 videocard and/or its driver.

That's funny. I have a GeForce FX 5200 and the game runs perfectly on the highest graphics. Definitely update your driver, because if I can run it on a 5200, then you should definitely be able to on a 6800.

No actually I can reduce crashes by downgrading my driver to the 71.89 version - which was released mid-april last year and probably the driver used in testing by Firaxis. But running an old driver causes other problems and it is not a solution I can live with.
