1) Are the screenshots coming out OK / readable for everyone?
Yes, great to see, especially for the spatially inept like me :dancing5:

All of the above, or none of the above, I forget these things *pimp*
As to the dotmap, I don't know whether mh has horses to hand at Aachen, but either way, I'd consider putting city 3 over by pigs-horse, and stick it on a hill if possible. It'll seal your backyard nicely.
I'd probably move number 2 1NW to get the plains hill into play (it just screams resource). I guess #1 is your cottage city, and pigs-rice will make a decent home for NE, and #3 would make a decent HE city. Seeing how many peaks there are, I think all your spots have decent food, which is always handy.

TheArchduke Wrote:Awesome dotmaps. I am curious to see if you go with a small 5 city empire or try for a big push. You are definetly in an interesting position Yeah, I have a kind-of sinking feeling about my position tbh.
I'm definitely going to be pushing out for more than 5 cities, and I plan to expand pretty rapidly. It was a late and narrow decision to build a Warrior rather than start straight on my second Settler this turn; I changed my mind because the 3t for the Warrior will also coincide with growth and generate overflow hammers into the Settler, and that my second Warrior is a couple of turns too far away to act as escort for the Settler (and Tim while he's roading out that way).
I think that securing the Clam/Sheep spot on the coast is going to be important - hence City3 on the dotmap - and after that it'll probably be the Horse/Pig site in the NW. The E/NE is problematic since the only food resource is a stretch and the Eastern valley doesn't even have enough grassland to really support a city until Windmills are available. I'm less concerned about rushing to settle the SW since it's buried in Jungle and it seems unlikely that athlete will try and push a city past Banana Lake.

Some interesting suggestions that I will have to keep an eye on. Another effect of building a Warrior rather than my second Settler next is that I think I'll have BW before #2 is founded, so it could change based on the circumstances.

We have further word from Ruff:
Quote:Dreylin,
It seems that you have the PAL position, nicely placed in the center and (to some degree) able to control the contact between the tribes. As you can see from the relationship screen, the Civ I have met has not met you (you can probably work out who that is). He is currently scouting towards my territory so you might have to find him, instead of the other way around.
I have 2 scouts out, 1 you have met, the other you might see shortly. My plan is to send them both past you to explore further afield. Do you have any suggestions re routing?
Cheers,
Ruff
and before I could formulate a reply:
Quote:I just played my turn and it shows that you do know Sooooo so ignore my comments below. Guess you either just met him or there is still someone out their that you don't know.

Ruff is being pretty communicative and is probably drawing out more information than he is giving, but I do like to be helpful!
Quote:Hi Ruff,
I must have met him this turn (for a full set). Reading between the
lines of your comments - this one especially: "he is currently
scouting towards my territory so you might have to find him" - I
gather I was wrong that Sooooo is the Northernmost of the Eastern
tribes and that you have the defensible spot in the NE...?
For directions, you have three choices from my Capital: WSW through
the Jungle to the South of Banana Lake, WNW across the hills and North
of Banana Lake, or NNW up the Central Valley through the Gap of Rohan
to the Great Ocean. The people you seek lie West of Banana Lake and in
the far NW respectively, though an emissary of one was recently
spotted heading into the Central Valley. I hope these directions are
of use.
As for the PAL position, are you saying my two neighbours are
incompetent and Wonder-happy!? 9-)

And there's more:
Quote:Dreylin,
Thanks for the directions. I guess I will just have to sense which lake is the 'Banana Lake'. If / when you come East, watch out for the Peaks of Sorrow and the Long River.
My PAL quip was obviously aimed at your central location and not the non-existent playing abilities of the two peoples to your West!
Ruff
I hope there's no Bananas or Rabbits watching....
EDIT: Wait, that should be Templars & Imperio(s?)
Quote:Ruff,
I will watch for the landmarks you mention as I explore East.
Regarding Banana Lake; you will recognise it since it's liquid is
salty (ahem); though if you see the Banana, you're going to have to
detour.
He's again ducked the question of whether he or Sooooo is further North, which is disappointing. I probably should be less forthcoming with info in future.

It's all go around here today! Received a pm from Sooooo requesting my e-mail address, so sent this quick greeting:
Quote:Greetings Sooooo,
You neighbour informed me that we've met, but I've not seen the game
since to work out where/how. If you've reached my lands "Welcome", if
I've reached yours "Nice neighbourhood", and if our scouts are passing
in the night "Fair weather, traveller"!

There's more:
Quote:Hi Dreylin,
Our scouts just hi-fived each other while passing. I have met just Ruff so far - he is east of our scouts. Have you met anyone else and if so could you direct me to them?
So I gave him the same directions as provided to Ruff earlier:
Quote:Sooooo,
Our Scouts in the SE? So Ruff is in the East and you are in the North.
Meeting you actually completes my set. The route I know back to my
lands runs West and a little South through a gap in the Mountains.
Once you reach my Capital, you have three choices: WSW through the
Jungle to the South of Banana Lake, WNW across the hills and North of
Banana Lake, or NNW up the Central Valley through the Gap of Rohan to
the Great Ocean. The people you seek lie West of Banana Lake and in
the far NW respectively, though an emissary of one was recently
spotted heading into the Central Valley.
Good Luck!
Dreylin.

t26 - It turns out I have met Sooooo's Scout right near the borders of Ruff's empire ... bit further East than I had guesstimated, but in the ball-park. Bear Slayer lived up to his name in the NW scoring a win at 68% odds surviving with 0.2/1 Health. An upgrade to WoodsmanII puts him back to 0.7/1 and I decide to move him West to see a bit more ... and he sees another Hut!
Western Scout spots a Wolf as he moves back West after fog-busting the far side of Banana Lake; I don't think he's threatened, but is in a forest so will be fine.
Settler & Warrior reach City1 site - spotting a Bear nearby - and are prepared to found next turn. I'm having second thoughts about whether to head for the Plains hill further East (now I know how far Ruff is), but it will take ~4t to do safely and the increased maintenance will be a pain so I'll probably stick to the original dotmap.
I've updated the big map to add Ruff's location and attached. I'll try and keep it mostly up to date, attached to the latest turn and remove the previous versions.
Edit: Removed map
