Yuris, online or via PBEM you prefer? I prefer online non-sim turns with a bit slower turn timer (or without turn timer at all if this is OK with you) with the rest of the default rules .

Unless someone figures out something stunningly simple and brilliant at the same time this is the method I'll use to break 3-way tie if such happens.

Quote:3) Each player will PM the admin with his civ/leader choice for the game. Duplicates will be allowed. However, once a player has chosen a particular trait or civ, he cannot choose it again.
Therefore each of you will have used 6 different traits over the course of the group stage. A single trait can be picked at maximum 8 times. At the end of the group stage I'll tally how much each trait was picked and assign points from ( 0, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 ) set. Player with lowest score wins the 3-way tie.

I prefer PBEM. I also would be happy to load the game in Pitboss when we're both online at the same time to make turns go fast. Then resume PBEM after the blitz session. I've always wanted to do that with Scooter but his stupid firewall at college doesn't cooperate.

Well, I can play almost each night after 19.00 GMT and most of the time during the weekends. If you can play near the same time, we can meet online, set the game and start it. We will play with consecutive turns and without turn limit, so it mimics PBEM the most. You will have all the time you need for your moves, but we will be online, so normally we can make 20-30-40 turns in one 2-hour session without the hassle to check email, send, receive, start, save, etc, etc.
Anyway with PBEM you most probably spend actually the same 2-3-4 minutes looking at the game and playing your turn, or even less in the initial phase, when you have only 1 warrior or scout to move. As the game advances and you may want more time for thinking, you will have it, I will not make pressure for time, but it will be anyway times faster than PBEM.
I asked, but did not saw answer to this in this thread - how many turns/day are PBEMs played at? In the welcome thread someone mentioned 1-2 turns a day. This is not bad, but it will take more than 1 month for a game to finish. From my experience a duel takes about 100 turns to declare a winner even with 2-city elimination rule.
To the tournament admin - is 2 city elim am official rule in the rule set?

This is for a 6 player PBEM with players in vastly different timezones. With a duel and players able to arrange a common playing window of few hours you can easily power through 20-40 turns a day depending on how complicated the situation is.

The game is played until one side concedes or a deadline is reached.
If on deadline advantage of one player is clear that player wins.
If there is no clear winner, you get 7 turn extension to achieve a decisive result.
At the end of 7 turn extension if no decisive result is reached, player with more in-game points wins.

Yes, time window is the same for me. How does online work when we finished a session and want to postpone the game?
1 turn/day is the standard for 4-6 players PBEMs. I expect duel PBEMs to move at more or less the same speed as online/Pitboss, a guesstimate would be 20-25 turns in the first session, 8-10 turns per session thereafter
I believe most were in favour of no city elim, and I don't see it in the rule post

When we decide we had enough for today, we simply say so and we both make a save. Then on the next session we make the game loading the save and voila - we are at the same point we were last time we decided to stop.

Also, while it is not your turn, you can still set tech paths, set building orders, etc. And last, but not least, you can communicate with your opponent in real time with the in-game chat. Chatting during play makes for better feel about the game and also creates comradeship. A la guerre comme a la guerre, but beyond this we can be pals and learn from each-other. Right?

Then I am OK with no city elim. This will make for a bit different game, but can be very interesting from strategic perspective.

Bob and I are figuring out our plan by email, and we'll send Mist our picks shortly. Speaker said he'd get back to me on the script he has as the link he has doesn't work so he'll have to check his computer. I do have a mirrored Inland Sea script I grabbed from CFC, but like the normal mirror, we'll probably want a lurker to spend 5 mins touching it up so it's not QUITE so barren. Any volunteers in advance to do that?
I'll probably make a thread - though I'm thinking I'll just make one thread for the extent of the tournament. I have no idea what the frequency of updates will be.
